Australia is the second litmus test solely because I'm Australian, and I get to be snobbish and judgemental about obscure town placements in the Gibson Desert.

For Oz we had an Australian help us with the design for the Clio map, so hopefully that resolves the issue.

Ooh! Shiny! Very impressed.

Minor nitpicking: Brno (in Moravia) could be split into two provinces, that is quite an odd behemoth of a province (I would suggest Jihlava in the west, and Brno in the east), and there doesn't seem to be consistency between Czech names and German names used - I hope this is corrected.

The Eden region in Australia should definitely be split into two - an Eden in the south and an Illawarra in the north. The notion that Eden and Sydney (480km distance, half way to Melbourne) share a regional border is quite bizarre. Orphir could also be renamed Orange, both are about equally correct in the historical context, but the latter is more comprehensible today.

Otherwise, it seems to be a very fine map.

The provinces in Norway are following the same borders of the counties, yes? And those places where you have combined several of them are done in a excellent way

With the number of provinces in game, your way of combining them is a impressive achievement of common sense.

However the names are somewhat wrong. I assume that you don't want to use Æ,Ø and Å. So you wrote Alesund and Bodo. The correct way of translating it is Aalesund and Bodoe. (Å=aa, Ø=oe) This things got rules you know. And another thing, form about 1870 it was Kristiania*1.(you got the pre-1970's Christiania) . A bit problematic since it changes about mid game. Kristiania also changed name to Oslo in 1924. But I don't remember the end date for the game, so that may not be a problem.

I also still find paradoxes Principe of naming provinces after the biggest town stupid, But I don't have high hopes of changing that.

This is a bit off topic, but I have to ask. How do I make pictures smaller like you do? When tying to use the picture from Imageshark (your map) it got way to enormous on preview.

*1) someone may dispute the actual year, but the renaming of the town is kinda complicated. I'm tired of writing so go read wikipedia if you don't accept my view on it. (I also think wikipedia en, no and nn has different views)

Changing province names is most probably going to be very easy in the final version of the game, as is was for EU3, Rome, and HoI3.

EU3 - yes. HoI3 - no.

Paradox took the CLIO map, that was debated on by the Vicky1 community for ages, and used that for their current map. Obviously they are very reluctant to make any changes to that, as it'll only open a can of worms -- as one can perfectly see in this thread.

Well, some errors reported here have nothing to do with history or legitimacy of this or that name, some are simple typos (Styri anyone?). Or simple anachronisms (Vilnius, Anchorage, Stanislawow being called with post-1945 name and so on). Or non-existent names (the province of Rovne was apparently named after the city of Równe, in Russian called Rovno, in Ukrainian Rivne, no language calls it Rovne).

We all appreciate the work Clio guys put into their work. But this doesn't mean their work is flawless.

Thank's for the update. Will there be an option to mod the geography of the map later on or will it be hard coded? I'm still stuck at the Taurus Mountains which seemed forgotten on an Alpha screenie.

Sorry if this has already been asked, but are these colors set for the game, or will we still see our provinces in one "country color" but outlined for province seperation?

Honestly, the colors are a bit garish as presented...


Edit: given the recent India screenshot, I am assuming country color, but just wnting to check

those are the RGB colors for use by the game engine to know which province is which, they are not seen on screen by players.

Colorado looks good, although I still think you should change Alamosa to Durango. Durango was a major rail connection for southwest Colorado between Denver and California.

In CK you had Kemi as the province where Tornio is now. Give Kemi back, it's more important city! :wacko:

Its nice to know that Victoria 2 would be using the Clio map. I would like to pinpoint an error in the map I found and would request you to correct it before the map is applied in Victoria 2. Just look at the map of South Asia, i.e. the map of India's state of Kashmir. You forgot to add a strip province bordering Srinagar which is a part of Kashmir and therefore that strip province has got absorbed in Sialkot, Attock and Chitral provinces. That strip is currently known as Pakistan controlled Kashmir. For more information just look at the current map of India and Pakistan and you would come to know. If you need help let me know. Here is a link to the Kashmir map. If you look at the strip called "Azad Kashmir" near Srinagar you would come to know that you have missed it. Kindly include that also. You can name the province as "Muzafarabad". This will make the map more precise.

Neither, AFAIK the map is finished, there will be no more provinces added.

Name changes are probably also not going to be considered beyond misspellings seen in any dev diary screenshots, as the development team have more than enough on their plates to do without fiddling with text files over province names.
