Today we are thrilled to announce the opening of our new and improved webshop - yes folks, you will now be able to get your physical retail boxes directly from Paradox! At the moment the shop is in BETA and Victoria 2 is the first and only title available. This means anyone who’s ever experienced difficulties finding our games in their local game store will now have a one stop shop to meet your needs. First edition stock is limited so it’s first come, first serve.

Visit www.gameplayoutlet.com to find out more. We’ll keep this thread open for questions and comments.

Good idea, but I have to say this: £35 (£40 including delivery!) is just too much. Every main UK supplier (Amazon, Play, Gameplay etc.) are selling it for at least £10 cheaper than this, with free delivery. How do you expect to compete?

Good to see. I've already ordered my game (so too late for me) but I've traditionally gone to the web shop for my Paradox games and look forward to doing so again in the future

I'm curious though, will this be in competition with GamersGate, or what is the relationship between the two?

Edit: And, as Mighty_Joker notes, the price is substantially higher than that of other retailers

i guess it´s like kallocain said
"This means anyone who’s ever experienced difficulties finding our games in their local game store will now have a one stop shop to meet your needs."
they don´t plan to compete to places with a good local reseller.

anyway, a good start to maybe also take the step to publish the digital copies directly.

I suppose so, but if you can order the box copy from this new online store, you can also order it from one of the big online retailers. I understand if it was either Paradox store or trawl your local corner game shop, but it's not like you'd have access to this online store and not Amazon. For all Paradox's greatness as a game developer (they really are one of the best), £40 is just criminal for a computer game, it really is.

I don't see how, several years ago, and games costing £40 was the norm, as far as I remember, at least on consoles, some games were even £60 or £70

Anyway, I doubt I'll ever need this service, as I prefer Gamersgate or Amazon, but this is a good move from Paradox - not everyone is lucky enough to have a good broadband connection.

But that's my point. If you can access the Paradox shop, you can access Amazon, which also offers a boxed copy, for which you don't need Broadband.

But Amazon doesn't sell PC-games to evey country in the world.

f.e. I have seen several posters from Australia/New Zealand saying that they can't buy the games at Amazon.

I haven't checked to see if the new Paradox shop sells to all countries.

No, I don't think Amazon does go to every country. I appreciate that the store is a good idea, I just think that the price is too high, that's all.

EDIT: But I suppose it's not my place to critique a company's business strategy. No offence meant.

Then buy it from Amazon, the Paradox shop won't make any money, and they'll close it down, that's how this kind of thing works ;)

But you must remember, Amazon don't ship everywhere in the world, whereas it appears from a brief look Paradox will, and they appear to price in £ Sterling, whereas gamersgate and Amazon price depending on the currency of your location, which is slightly unfair on some people (I think American Gamersgate customers get screwed over compared to the Europeans, or vice versa, or something)

Edit: Veldmaarschalk'ed :(

Again, that was my original point. If I do end up buying the game, it would be from somewhere cheaper, and Paradox would potentially lose out, which was my original point.

Well, I don't know if you remember, but Paradox used to run a shop just like this which, guess what? Shut down because they weren't making enough money, and look how well Paradox are doing now :D

As long as you aren't pirating, Paradox get their fair share of the proceeds wherever you buy from, and it's no different for other software companies.

Edit: In fact, I'm going to go start up an OT thread about 'How Much is Too Much' as I'm quite interested in getting people's views on this, and I don't want to clutter this thread

From what I can tell they'll post anywhere, if you're prepared to pay shipping. For example, V2 would be $39.99 for the game and $10 to post out here. Presumably that's US dollars.

You'd have to be pretty keen to pay 25% extra for shipping, but that's the cost of being a couple of thousand kms from any other land, let alone civilisation ;)

Great idea but as mentioned before prices aren't right. Places like Play (with free shipping, it's still cheaper) and Amazon offer the game much cheaper. The only people that could be interested in this are either living in the third world or a place where for some reason traditional shops don't deliver.

But I wish you guys luck with this.

I will always buy games from this site from now on, regardless of the shipping.

But it's too bad I ordered my copy from Amazon last night!
