When will Paradox release the patch as an official patch? Or will they never do that because it wasn't developed under Paradox control?

Same here. An official patch would outshine your previously shown devotion for Vic2 in my humble opinion. Also desperately waiting for a Victoria 3 x)

Devs already explained this. It is after their long xmas break.
They will iron out the bugs (in beta patch) and then release it on Steam as well as direct downloadable file for non steam users.

Since they are returning to office on 12th, give them a week to settle, and work on it so I would hope to have it by 19th January 2016.

From what I read on this thread (devs' posts):

1. They will re-release on Steam after the xmas break with bugs ironed out
AND
2. This time they will also provide a downloadable (non-Steam) file option. So if you are a non-Steam user, you still get the final (new) patch, soon.

What is not clear is whether it will be (once again) a non-official beta patch or an official Victoria 2 patch.
They did not explicitly clarify this part (or I missed it if they did).

Personally I do not mind official or not. It is the same guys working on it, the same guys releasing it. It might even be better if it's not official - things probably will move faster. I prefer a patch in the next 14 days rather than waiting much longer for the official bureaucracy train to move.

Probably the main issue would be that if it isn't released "officially" it probably won't get ported to the MacOS version. Not sure if VP has ever ported a Paradox beta patch.

Have sorted out the issues with diplomacy (big oops on my part resulted in all the various bugs), the disband understrength button and right-clicking opening diplomacy while inside another view. Any other serious issues introduced by the patch? (besides the world war CTD)

- Diplomatic AI no longer absolutely out of its gourd.
- World Wars are now only lethal to your hapless population rather than killing the entire game.
- Right-clicking in open country views will no longer initiate intimate diplomatic relations with unsuspecting countries.
- Missing Russian army located after a memorable week touring Sweden.

@Wiz I learned about the massive iron ore (Kiurna? Bad spelling?) deposits 30 years ago in a geography class. I would actually like a tour myself.

BTW, is the economy so hosed that a patch would not save it? As you very well know, Vic is the only game where you can truly 'stand tall' without having to paint the map. That is why I like timeline extensions for Vic 2.
