OK, so according to Steam I have nearly 200 hours logged onto Victoria II, and it's my favorite Paradox franchise by far closely followed by EU. It has plenty of interesting and unique mechanics that keep it refreshing after so many years. I don't have nearly as many hours sunken in as many of the pleasant people who frequent the forums, but it's something. I don't optimize my strategies or mess around with my message settings, since I'm pretty laid back while playing.

Anyways, I was picked up Vicky 2 after a few months of leaving it dormant, doing a good ole Prussia>NGF>Germany campaign and I notice something a little odd on the right side of my screen:

So I scrolled over to it,

Like, from Hearts of Iron? I was confused.

How did I not notice this for the +5 years I've been playing this? Did anyone else miss these? I've found that battleplans are pretty useless in this game, but it's an intriguing addition nonetheless.

Yes, it was the pre-alpha of what is used in HOI4 with added code to actually make it do something. Every Paradox game builds upon another. If you believe that each game is a stand-alone creation that doesn't affect the others in any way, then you don't understand Paradox.

Well, except EU IV. That game is special in every way and has the passionate support of a certain studio manager. EU is the first-born male child of Paradox. Never forget that.

It's actually from HoI3's third expansion (TFH), where it was meant to be an important multiplayer addition. I don't think anyone seriously used it though. HoI3's version comes with some pre-made historical plans which i suppose are kinda nice. Like Germany has Weserubung, Blau, Gelb, Weiss, and Barbarossa, with all the symbols and everything mapped out.

The Vic 2 version seems to have been added in HoD, and is just a copy-paste with slightly different symbols.

Thank you. Sometimes I get confused. :D

I don't really use them for battles per say (since there aren't front lines in this game, what's it matter?), but I do use them for goals and things I want to remember.
For example, in my most recent game as Italy, I planned to conquer Albania to get a foothold in the Balkans because I wanted to take all of Turkey's colonies, but my navy wasn't good enough to kill Britain's, Britain being allied with Turkey. So I drew an arrow leaving Venice to Albania that branched into four, telling me to invade Albania with four stacks (of 30, naturally)
and then the four arrows left Albania and converged on Istanbul, reminding me I was planning to murder Turkey.
Also, there were dates above each arrow, because I often forget these things :p
