Ok so I wanted to play relaxing Italian game of cheese.
Took out Austria, Turkey, Romania, Hungary (should not have switched to Fascist, ha ha ha), and Franco.
Joined Axis, patiently waited for war to start, attacked France. EZ, gg, Pizza in Paris. BUT! What do I see? on the land I occupied and I REALLY need (to connect Iberia to rest of my Empire) Vichy France pops up. F*****
Ok, so it is probably because I joined Axis. Evil Hitler is just CREATING STUPID COUNTRIES IN FRANCE even when his divisions are not even in Belgium yet. Restart, no more Axis b***, Italy first. The same path of conquest and cheese. This time I am not in the Axis, France is doing well: occupying parts of the Rhineland. Backstab, gg, ez, VICHY FRANCE AGAIN!?

How to stop Vichy France from spawning?
Mods? Also I can probably mod the game myself, just tell me which file and variable/function

I'm sure you're right. I'm just saying that this wasn't true according to OP. Perhaps it deserves more investigation (he could be running with an older version of the game where the script is different? Or perhaps there was something he didn't notice?)

Can you provide screenshots showing you controlling most of France, not in faction with Germany, yet the Vichy event fired? The event is blocked if a player who is not in faction with Germany controls any French states other than Corsica, Provence, Savoy, or Midi Pyrenees.

I've heard that the issue is if Germany is at war with France at all it will spawn Vichy France. All the guides I've seen for getting the Blitzkreig achievement say not to call Germany into the war, as they will spawn Vichy France and you lose out on the territory you need to get the 'cheevo. I also recall another conversation here from a couple months ago from a frustrated Italy player with the same complaint. The recommended solution back then was also: do not let Germany enter war with France.

Hi @podcat , there's a pretty serious bug with the Vichy France event (france.10) introduced in 1.9, probably introduced by two people trying to fix the same issue without knowing what each other is doing.

Before 1.9, there's only one event: france.10, which had a long list of triggers and an MTTH of 2 days. This is obviously not ideal so someone tried to optimize it:

1. Someone moved the triggers and MTTH of france.10 into a new hidden event france.101, leaving the former event with no checks.

2. Someone else added an on_capitulation on action with a very short list of checks, likely only meant as a sanity check with the assumption that the now-removed triggers in france.10 would do its job

The result is the worst of both worlds: not only the MTTH is still being evaluated in france.101, the event can now be triggered with a much shorter list of conditions by the on_action, causing the event to fire in situations where it wouldn't in older versions.

This would get rid of the MTTH for improved performance as well as keeping all the conditions intact. I removed the checks for French advance and surrender progress as this on_action fires after France has already capitulated so they don't matter.

There's one like that with regard to Spain. The "Unite Iberia" Focus does have a goal vs the UK if the UK still possess Gibraltar. Just above or below that focus there is another regarding Gibraltar that generates a wargoal vs. the UK if Spain does not control Gibraltar - no check if the UK has Gibraltar, nor if the UK even exists. It should also be checking vs. the UK being a puppet. Any major that takes down France, the UK and/or the USSR would not be a country for Spain to mess with.

I made a post about it, but aside from a few views it got no replies, so I assumed nobody gave a damn.

To be honest, the game is full of focuses that lack checks regarding alt realities. Japan will justify against Malaya and the NEI even if a bigger, meaner dog has them. Only if both are annexed or in the same faction as Japan do the checks seem to deter Japan. The Soviet focus pushes the USSR to get extra derpy when its still hindered by the effects of the purges - waiting would be better, if Romania. Poland or any of the Baltics are controlled by a major. Germany offers the Mol-Rib pact even when its no longer needed - historically that was to allow Germany to invade Poland without Russia intervening. Both sides knew t was a temporary settlement. Stalin is said to have told students at the Frunze academy that the Mol-Rib pact was "the stage curtain behind which we prepare for our true goals". Or something to that effect. The game needs a lot more checks, which is surprising, considering the weirdness the devs ask us to do with regard to achievements.

I removed france.10 and all is fine now:)
What this game needs is for Paradox to stop pumping unprepared DLCs and concentrate on country unit packs.
