If I understand things right, then is the Vichy event if you capture Paris France automatically capitulates? If that's the case, then I'm certainly going to delete it... (or find some way to modify it to make things more realistic at least)
Like Aetius said, the British army was gone. As was nearly all of the French army (what remained was no match for the Panzer divisions already in Brest-Poiters-Lyon). France was already crumbling by the time Paris was captured... the capture of the city was not the reason for the French surrender. It was because the French had already been thouroughly defeated beyond all hope of victory. In contrast to 1914, the possession of Paris had no influence on strategic decisions. The city was no longer a great fortress from which a reserve army might sally out and attack our communications. The French High Command declared Paris an open city, and the German High Command virtually ignored the place in its calculations-the entry of German troops on 14 June was a mere incident in the campaign.
There was a comment from a Russian who snuck two divisions behind the French line, walked into Paris, and the French accepted the Vichy event, even when the French had a superior strategic position and a larger army. Wonderful.Originally posted by Baudolino
Well now, don't jump to conclusions. As I recall, it was hinted that the Vichy event depended upon OTHER factors than merely taking Paris. Perhaps there are secondary provinces which must be taken first, the traditional North->South sweep, even.
But the AI won't ever reject it. That's not the kind of game I want to play... go for Paris at all costs, then once you INSTANTLY get one division in the city then game over. That's the kind of thing you find in games like Panzer General and other tactically focused games... not in a game like HOI which is entirely based upon real strategy (i.e. aiming for tangible objectives, and always having to worry about the 'whole picture'), not just capture a city by such and such a date to 'win', forgetting everything else, leaving your flanks and supply open, just driving for a spot on the map.Originally posted by Yozhik
Vichy gives France an option to surrender under certain conditions. You can keep on fighting.

Yeah, it's true.Originally posted by Baudolino
Hey, we Americans admit we suck at geography. Don't remember the specifics of too many 19th Century wars, either.![]()
Well why didn't someone mention this in the first place?Originally posted by LordStark
The aars and faqs mention that "strategic centres" must be occupied before serious transfers of power can occur. These centres are signified on the map by a star, I do believe.

IF sommink better is found, xure. So if u have an idea, let us know and if it is better it'll make the game, I'm pretty much 99% certain. The thing is getting a better oneThe ones suggested so far have all got its drawbacks which IMO create more problems than they solve.
