It happened to me as well, after I installed Vichy government they werent allied with me and didnt even want to ally me (chance: 0%). After that I declared war on them and conquered again... Though it was quite frustrating.

No, wasn't there some during D-Day and in North Africa?

EDIT: That was at GrimReaper, sorry, forgot to quote.

And of course it's useful - if you don't, you can't annex France, and the territories aren't actually yours, so you can't deploy to them. The event also reduces dissent in the provinces you own. Plus you can always invade Vichy later.

In North Africa, Vichy troops fought American and British forces. In southern France, the Allies made an invasion shortly after D-Day.

Southern France was captured by the Germans after the allies landed in North Africa, so no Vichy there after D-Day.

But perhaps I missed your point...?

Accept Vichy event because it reduces base partisan levels to just 2% in the part of France that you get (contrasted with 24% in Poland). You also own those provinces.

After that, there are a long series of possible events for Vichy including several ... defects to Free France events, North Africa going to Italy, and sometimes Germany can get an event that gives them the rest of European Vichy France. These events are listed in the very large (70k) vichy_new file which is even bigger than the Germany event file.

It's definitvely historical that you are neither allied with nore have military access to Vichy France. But releasing is useful in terms of owning the northern France territories instead of occuping them and, with a little ammount of time, waiting until the clash of Allies and Vichy so they will enter the Axis.
