PC Gamer has a hard time giving anything over 70 to something that's not a FPS.

I'm not sure what version he was running, but the REALLY bizzare part is how all these reviewers seems to be virtually the only ones getting crashes all the time. (I simply never get crashes at all with the 1.02 patch.) Unless you have that issue, you should keep in mind that the score should be probably at least 5% higher or more since the reviewers presumably marked the game down on this issue.

Yeah, my games never crash and I only had trouble loading and saving the game with version 1.00 (it might have been user error as well ). I don't know what these guys are talking about. At worse, Vicky gets a A-/B+ in my grade book.

I've had 3 CTDs this week, but that's because my whole vic folder seem to have gotton corrupted somehow. I've holding off on a reinstall to finish my current game. Still, before that no crashes at all.

German gaming magazine "PC Games" gave 61% and in "Gamestar" it gets 73% ... so you see there are different points of view!
For me i think the test in gamestar is more objective(not only because of higher rating )... they give also the advice how to install the german version correct which you can't find in "PC Games".
Positive for them is especially historical events and ai diplomacy.
They criticise that the ai is sometimes(especially) in war a bit stupid and the micromangement!
So and if i think about that Hoi has got last month an increasing of rating from 74% to 76% because of patch 1.05 it's a good test result for Victoria.
And with future patches of Victoria there is an improvement of rating really possible!

Highs: Fun and addictive, if you can handle its unbelievable depth; good music.
Lows: Remarkably Steep learning curve; bug ridden; insufficient documentation
Bottem Line: Worthwhile only if you love the empire building genre like it was your mother

Yep, that's actually a pretty good summation of the current state of the game. Figure each patch adds 5-7%, and by 1.05 I think it will be something that really shines.

Then tack the VIP on top of that for some important events that were overlooked in the release version, and you've got an even better game....

i installed community mod and POP mod and game runs awesome now! i usually go bankrupt 2-3 times before i make a profit. game does have some problems right now, as far as economy goes. but those 2 mods clear it up perfect. i HIGHLY recommend them.

I thought 1 stars was a bit harsh, I think it warrented at least two. Like you said, however, that review sold me as well. I read between the lines and gave the game a shot, and I'm glad I did! Only thing I'm not glad about is the fact it has induced me to neglect my calculus and chemistry studies.

My games runs a high risk of crashing whenever I'm fiddling with building factories and the like... thank God for autosave.
