Played Sigurdr Ring. Created a custom Svipjod Kingdom. Upon my Death my Realm was split between Ragnarr and a younger son. The younger son got a province of one of my vassals and the (by gavelkind) created "real" Svipjod.

Ragnarr kept... well basicly everything...

Never seen this bevor.

Yes i knew that. But it gave my little brother one mager Province, that wasnt even Part of my Fathers demesne, while i got to keep all seven personal provinces and every single vassal.
Gavelkind ftw!

Gavelkind ftw!
That's because when a Duke+ character has no counties but at least one vassal with a county, they usurp a county to ensure they stay landed. Gavelkind only gave the Kingdom but he automatically usurped a county within that kingdom.

Can you screen the de jure kingdoms? Pretty sure that creating a custom kingdom makes all controlled duchies de jure part of the new title. Might have reduced the "real" Svipjod to only two de jure provinces.

settled governmens (everyone exept nomads, even landless) if they have a county always try to usurp the first holding in the county and try to make it the county capital. Duke+ charakters if they loose their last holding first try to usurp a county, if none is availible they try to usurp a barony.
