Where's Paradox going to get the time to do that? All of there games (Victoria nonwithstanding, since I have not played it) have been released on the seat of their pants (so to speak) and could have used another few weeks development. Where would they get the time needed for a reasonably secure demo?

By dumping Strategy First and their deadlines, for instance.

Paradox is an amateur?

First of all, piracy should be avoided at all cost.

I know that Paradox is an expert of making strategy games.
But I cannot understand why don't they care more about protection.

I guess the reason why worldwide sales of Paradox games are low is greatly due to piracy.

I'd suggest Paradox do not mind opinions from pirates.
Some does and some don't
Some buys and some don't.

Paradox should ignore whatever pirates says, and just be more cautious and do something for protection.

Starven(? sorry)'s idea from Galactic Civilization sounds fine.
(check in page 2 of this thread)
Or only CD-key holder could connect forum to download patches by typing CD-key written in the manual.
(This is not a perfect. maybe there could be people exchange CD-keys. but even such simple idea helps in some countries.
It's more than "better than nothing"

Current protection - if any - is most inadequate for regional publishers. Who will want to distribute games which already on the all over warez sites? I guess that's one of reason Paradox suffer difficulties to find regional publisher.

I guess it's also crime for you let your purse open in front of thief.

Paradox doesn't keep SF as their publisher because they like them, but because no one else will publish niche games like these:( Rather stupid of them considering the success of previous paradox games.

True. Strategy First earns thanks for taking Paradox under its wings in the first place. But there's no denying the fact that the premature release of HoI (and now Vicky?) was largely because of them.

Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Back to topic : opening a dedicated thread on the official site isn't the best idea to provide people from downloading the game for free, is it ? I mean, most users here probably didn't know about this being available, now they are...

Why are you hinting that Vicky was released prematurely?

Because some people who have played the game already have said it to be buggy. And patch 1.01 speaks for itself - in many ways (eg. good product support).

But the comment was above all a question, not a hint.

Oh, so that's the reason why the shop where I asked for the game wont have it before the 18th? I had assumed that it would have been released here yesterday, but was dissapointed to hear that I'd have to wait to next Tuesday. :(

You say you'll be buying it...

But you've already downloaded it. Did you have Paradox's permission? If the answers are "no" you have stolen it. What you intend to do in the future is irrelevent.

I'd love to play right now as well, I know I'm going to buy it, but that doesn't give the right to pirate it

ok, so he has committed a crime ... but if he does buy the game afterwards, who should be mad about it? (and why?)

Those of you who have listened or have owned illegal mp3 before please do all the members of the board a favor by not making a post regarding your stance against piracy. It would really be beneficial to the weight of the arguments against piracy if only the righteous makes a post about it.

So please, when you post your stance against piracy, states that you have never EVER 'steal' anything in your life irregardless of the factors involved. You believe that you have lived a good and righteous life and have never stray from the path. That way we'll know that you meant what you said and not just another thief that cries thief to other people.

Have you ever listened to and/or owned or downloaded a pirated/ripped/illegal MP3, Game, Video, or peice of software?

Can you honestly say you've never done any of those before? Hopefully, because if you've have, then by making your post you'd be quite a hypocrite.

I don't think it's right to assume that just because people outside of Scandinavia are posting questions about the game, they must be pirating. Most of us who frequently post on the boards are diehard Paradox fans and think they deserve our $40 for the many, many, many hours of enjoyment we'll no doubt get out of Vicky. Rather, we are curious about the dynamics of the game, now that it's not covered by the NDA. So, can we tone down the fervor of the inquisition just a little bit? :)

I agree. I made a post about creating a modern day scenario for Victoria, but I was slightly scared for the fact that I thought everybody ws going to say I was a pirate because I wanted to start a discussion about a mod before I even owned the game. Of course, my MDS-Vicky thread was deleted for some reason... :(

I hate piracy as much as the next guy, and I have an undying love for Paradox, but the McCarthy-style witch hunt for pirates on the board is getting kind of scary. I think that if a person may appear to be a pirate, the best thing for the people on the board is to not make any comments on it, not attack the person, and just let the moderators handle it. That would make things a lot easier and less intimidating.
