Not true. Most PC owners still don't have an internet connection, and a majority of those who have, have a dial-up. The number of connections and percentage of broadband connections are increasing, but they aren't the majority yet. Of course, it may be so that the target group of the kind of games Paradox makes would have an internet connection more often than the average gamers, but I doubt the difference would be too significiant.

Then there are of course the alternative registeration means - phone and mail - but I bet most people are too lazy for those and thus automatically ignore them (I know I do :p ).

In the UK, 61% of homes have a PC and 50% of home are connected to the internet i.e 80% of PC users are connected to the net. About 18% of PC users have broadband.

I'd be suprised if the figures are much different in North America, Western Europe or Scandinavia.

The number of PC users if flattening off but the internet connection % and broadband % seem to still be rising.

I am/was ready to pay the full price just to beta test Victoria.

Can Paradox create a way of giving an early download access to the game for a price and discontinuing it when the game got published to please the publishers? This money form the die hard Paradox supporters will go 100% to Paradox and will support the development.

And the idea of having a CD key and using it to get access to updates and the member’s only forum is good.

Actually, I like things the way they are security wise....I am currently waiting for my copy to ship, but i enjoy a game that has no hassle....

Member only forums? you mean only people that bought the game? where would someone ask questions about a game to verify whether they would want it? after all, its much better reading a user review(a few actually) than going blindly by a normal review.

No, i think that companies that handle such merchandise should be made to be responsible.....if it was a reviewer, find out who it was, and the mob that does the review should be held responsible, and it should be a criminal matter.

I take it these people have to sign a contract before they get the game? if not, then why not? that would be criminally foolish.

Has Paradox been able to do anything at all? if not, then why not?

Just thought of this. What about a Demo with no .txt files? IE, no leaders, no Monarchs (1 monarch of infinite lifespan for each country), no events (normal or random), no unit names (except Unit 1, Unit 2, etc...), no descriptions of anything (except "in the real game..."), and on top of this, only countries in Europe. Nothing else, the rest of the world would be empty, unoccupied territory.

That would make for a somewhat interesting look at how the game works, but it wouldn't give much away to anyone, and the game would be close to unplayable for long periods of time.

Plus, the .exe could have a tag/version which would make it impossible to patch.
