o.k so I have cruised to a fairly easy victory as Germany on the hard/aggressive difficulty level (not exactly the first try either ;) ) and am now considering playing at the very hard level/aggressive - is there a huge difference? Does one need a radically different kind of strategy at this level? Any input appreciated. Happy wargaming. :D

Long story short. No, you don't need any radically different strategy. Only if you don't have the skill to defeat the AI at Very hard/Very aggressive and have to resort to gamey strategies. ;)

One thing though, in VH France is a lot harder to crack relative to Russia than it is on H. At least thats my personal assesment. Could be because of higher troop concentrations and less chance of encirclements or something like that. Also you need to increase the aggressiveness as well. On the highest level, the AI is far more likely to conduct amp operations, use naval bombers more effectively and generally be more alive. True, it does mean it looses more units in encirclements, but its generally a far better gaming experience due to the AI being far harder to predict :)

Dont play with aggressive difficulty. Play on normal aggressivity and very hard.

As when the PC is very aggressive it makes loads of mistakes - like open up for encirclements to a lot higher degree.

The strategy IMO at least is a lot different if you play on Hard and Very Hard if you use the latest version of ARM and you dont try to abuse the system.

If you play as Germany on VH / Normal I usually prefer INF spam supported with HQs and a small airforce. Tanks take too much IC and are too slow on VH IMO.

To me, the normal aggressivens AI just seems to just stand there and take the punishment. Sure, VH may loose a few more divisions, but if it just stood still then there is no discussion that it would loose. With VH it puts up a fight.

Skarion puts up a valid point that I tend to forget. The speed bonus/penalty on VH. On H you hardly notice it, but on VH its clear its there. Blitzkrieg can still work, but it is not as easy as it is far harder to do overruns because of the said speed penalty. It can still be done, and I far prefer it over the slow method of Inf spam. Thats commie tactics! I'll have none of it! :p
