We started by sending a colonist to the cyclades, and converting that to Catholicism. We also decided to implement various reforms to free our serfs a bit more.

We decided to spend the first few years in peaceful times. Slowly watching our relations improve with our fellow catholic breathren.

September 9, 1419 England annexed Orleans.

The hundred years war ended.
July 1, 1420 : France accepted peace with England on the following terms : England pays 42$ in indemnities.

We joined a huge alliance!
Venice is allied with Papal States, Castile, Portugal, Trebizond, Albania and Cyprus. Castille is the honoured alliance leader.

June 5, 1421 : Venice joined the war on the same side as Papal States, Castile, Portugal, Trebizond, Albania and Cyprus in their war against Modena and Genoa.
As soon as we joined, we had to join the war too. But no sooner had we shipped our troops around italy to invade Corsica, than peace was made. So much for that then

September 24, 1422 : Castile declared war upon Granada.
September 25, 1422 : Venice joined the war on the same side as Castile, Portugal, Trebizond, Papal States, Albania and Cyprus in their war against Granada, Fez and Algiers.
We joined in. But didnt get to see any action =(
December 30, 1422 : Castile accepted peace with Granada on the following terms : Return to Status Quo.
bah!

April 5, 1423 : Francesco Foscarini will now rule our glorious nation!
w00t, a new king!

Am not happy with Venice's economy, must do something. Perhaps vassalise someone? Fight a war and take gold? Hmm..

July 1424
We declared war on Bosnia!
We wanted to expand our influence in the region and seeked to vassalise Bosnia (to increase our budget)
Decided not to call any allies in, as Bosnia's only ally, Ethiopia, wasn't considered a threat. At first we suffered a slight setback, army defeated by Bosnians, they even went on to besiege Dalmatia, forcing us to withdraw to Istria. Whereupon we took a loan, recruited some 6k mercenaries and trained another 4,000 infantry and 1,000 cavalry.
January 1, 1425 : Carmagnola awaits your command in Istria.
w00t!A general just as we were about to set on the march to Dalmatia! What a great occurance at just the right time. Fate surely was smiling upon us.

February 6, 1425 : We have engaged hostile armies in Dalmatia.
February 11, 1425 : We won a battle against Bosnia in Dalmatia.
March 9, 1425 : We have engaged hostile armies in Bosnia.
March 13, 1425 : We won a battle against Bosnia in Bosnia.
March 13, 1425 : We have initiated a siege in Bosnia.
February 13, 1426 : We captured the province of Bosnia from Bosnia

not too shabby this general of ours eh?

March 26, 1426 : Bosnia accepted our generous peace offer.
Bosnia accepted to become our vassal, give us military access and pay us 475 gold coins as a tribute!
WOW!
We were stunned at how much money these bosnians had.

We sent a missionary to Corflu
*** ended here ***
We're in a good alliance, have upgraded all of our tax collectors to bailiff's. And vassalised Bosnia. Year and monthly income are still low for my taste. We might have to seek sombody else to vassilise or expand our territory. We decided to vassalise and not annex Bosnia because we did not want to deal with revolts from the local populace.

Horray, a Venice AAR! All my prayers (well, most of them) have been answered. Relations going up? I remember in one of the early patches of EU, relations rose when you weren't being a bad boy, but that was removed later. So relations still climb without you having to empty your treasury at people?

Now, go ahead, unite Italy under benevolent Venecian rule!

Don't forget to vassalize Byzantine Empire and unite Italy! And, by the way, I hope there will be no Civil Wars in Venice!

I don't think the starting relations have been put into EU2 yet. So I basically had 0 with everyone. With maxed catholic tolerance and being peaceful, relations rose rose rose.. theyre at about 40 with every catholic now.

For now I think Ill focus on trying to grab an italian province here or there depending on alliance wars and how they go. Once Venice has grown some we can start to wage our own wars of conquest. I might have to do another crusade into some balkan nation for cash and vassal state. I feel my income is too small for now.

I don't know, so I'd play safe and not talk about the cultures really.. but don't turn my AAR into a bloody culture thread! oi!

And besides, many things havent been put into the game yet.. so saying x culture exists or doesnt could be misleading.

anyways, I played a bit more..

from 1427 onwards..

Traded maps with portugal, discovered the Azores!
We sent a colonist to the Azores! He succeeded and we founded our first colony.

Castille declared war on Grenada, and we and protugal joined in and attacked Fez,Algiers and Granada. We even captured two algierian cities before Castille made a white peace with Algiers and then ended the war by annexing Granada.

We declared war on Ragusa, and swiftly occupied it and conquered it and annexed it!

We declared war on Mantua, and after the city fell we annexed them too!

Azores rose to a city. (we kept sending a colonist once a year)

June 16, 1439 : Bosnia accepted peace with Serbia on the following terms : Full Annexation of Bosnia by Serbia
*sniff* We lost our vassal.. oh well, the 4 ducats we got from them every year wasn't much anyways.

Every city in the Venizian empire now had Bailiffs.

We exchanged maps with two african states and thus we have discovered large areas of central Africa.

We now have royal marriages with basically all of europe.
Portugal is now a Castillian vassal. France has united all of France bar the English held lands and Burghundy. Austria is HRE.

You colonized the Azores?? This asks for a war against Venice, people of Portugal unite yourselves against them.

Portugal a vassal of Castille
This is an outrage to the memory of our ancestors especially after the war we had against them to maintain our independence and put John I in the throne.

Sorry for the excessive patriotic feeling, maybe I got a little carried away. Anyway great AAR. When will someone make a portuguese one? try to conquer Morocco or something.

Seems like there's still a problem with peace-offers. 42 gold in indemnities, it's redicilous low, the price of one tax-collector...

eh, can you help me on this one? If you demand 250 and only get 42, that's not realistic.

If the AI doesn't want to take a loan, the demanding party must see that the AI only wants to pay 42. If this is bad money, just continue to crush them...

It's been like that since eu1 beta when playtesters started abusing minor nations as cash cows.

Nations dont take loans to pay reps. Because the human player will abuse it. Humans abusing an AI isnt realistic historically either is it?

In that case, an AI controlled country should simply refuse to make peace if it has less money than demanded. I've mentioned this several times before as a fix for EU 1, but was completely ignored. This would be extremely easy to implement, and is the most realistic way to fix the problem. Why hasn't this been considered?

If the AI can't afford to pay 250, then make make AI pay all the gold it has and then an annual payment of let's say 25 and that AI can afford. AI don't need to take a loan.
After 10 years the debt is payed and everyone is satisfied.

If you declare war again and make another peace with AI paying 250 gold, the rest of the first debt could automatically be deleted.

Something like this could easily be implemented in the game, the game need some more realistic peace-resolutions.

Azores rose to a city. (we kept sending a colonist once a year)
Does this mean Venice still receives a colonist every year because of the shipyard?

I would be very much interested in the starting stats concerning the Venetian army and navy. Last weekend I came across to these data by chance, and I was impressed: in 1420 the population of the city of Venice reached a population of 190 000! What is more, the navy had 45 large galleons and cca. 300 (!) galleons!
