I started as the count of Obertallo, (SP), vassal to the pope. I holy war-ed for Sardinia twice as well as having a humble/content/zealous ruler. As soon as I had 500 piety, the pope granted me an invasion of Venice. Venice had nabbed a few coastal counties, so I was was not over the realm limit with Sardinia.
Once I had Venice, I still had a spare 500 piety. So I took Croatia. Once I had Croatia, the penalties had gone from Venice, and I had another 500 piety. I took Hungary. By now I was rich from sieges and Venice, but weak from recently conquered modifiers everywhere. I then was granted an invasion of the HRE. I was about to go from count to emperor, renamed 'conqueror' four times in a single ruler! Alas my first ruler died, and HRE slipped from my grasp.
I played a benevolent peaceful ruler for two generations. Sorting our De Jure land, holding feasts and hunts. Building splendid castles, sorting out laws and educating heirs. My realm was the richest, strongest and peaceful nation. Then my son inherited a claim on France
The pope granted me an invasion CB. I took France when my son inherited. My realm was slightly bigger then the HRE, so I gave land to the pope so he loved me, and for the Peity. My land-bribed pope granted me an invasion of the HRE. Here is me on the eve of declaring peace and adding the HRE to Venice. I say this is the furthest I took Venice, as afterwards I was the HRE. I had the best of Europe as my fourth ruler, in 1172, as Venice.
It was my intent to be a Titular nation. I had the Titular duchy of Slovakia (From Hungary), titular Kingdom of Venice and was going to make titular Latin empire. Sadly the Byzantines never died, so I change my eastern ambitions for western glory.
I feel that Venice is the loveliest colour to paint the world.
