Thank you for your feedback.

@blsteen, Ostman: Yeah, I will probably have to go narrowminded, depose the Pope and pass a couple of decisions - I should get enough missionaries to fully convert Venice to the Reformed faith by... 1700 !

@ATBKING: Thank you, I really appreciate it !

1613-1616 : The 2nd Reconquest of Wolof

Venice's intervention brought relief to Burgundian troops. They had already managed to connect their northern and southern provinces, with help from Venice the war score reached 60.

In August 1613, Venice was at peace again. Burgundy had two new provinces : Auvergne and Liege.

In October 1613, we had finished building the manufactory in Bosnia and we got a new, exciting mission : build a manufactory in Cremona.

In 1614, as England and Sweden were both involved in war, Venice started the second reconquest of Wolof, in Africa, on which we had a core.
There were lot of places where we were going to have some fighting.

By January 1615, English troops in Italy had surrendered.

But it turned out that Venice was not going to have naval superiority in this war. The enemy coalition had more big ships and better admirals. Venice had more small ships, but they were on anti-piracy patrols.

In South America, a small Venetian stack seized five English colonies unhindered.

While a Swedish colony could be seized in Madagascar as well.

As a consequence of losing naval superiority, Venice's fleet had to retreat to Venice for repair. Sweden and England then attempted an invasion of Italy, which took Venice by surprise. But the Republic soon recovered and engaged the Swedes first in Friuli and then in Lienz.

Meanwhile, English troops in the Manhattan region had surrendered after a pincer manoeveur from the Venetians.

By January 1616, English and Swedish troops in Italy had been overwhelmed by Venetian troops and surrendered.

As the enemy coalition was ruling the sea, they had more strategic possibilities. The English had landed a stack in Venetian Africa, which was bigger than ours in the region. The Swedish province of Wolof was occupied by the French, and their war wasn't about to finish soon as well.

Further east in Africa, a Swedish stack caught us by surprise and would probably end up wiping our stack.

As it seemed obvious we were not going to make any further progress in this war, we made peace with the English and the Status Quo Ante Bellum was restored. There had been territorial changes, though, we had grabbed a couple of colonies in Southern America.
Still, the war had shown us that Venice wasn't ruling the waves unchallenged as some of us would have liked to believe.

The English had defeated the Ottomans and now controlled Cyprus, and all of Ireland. The only current war in Europe was Bohemia's conquest of Ersekujavar, and Hesse had been occupied.

Venice's conversion to the Reformed faith had created new problems. Several countries had left the trade league, as they did not want to trade with heretics. As this defeated the purpose of being a Merchant Republic, Venice had become an Administrative Republic.

Meanwhile, a new National Idea had been adopted, Viceroys. A slider move had been made towards narrowminded, but there were still too few missionaries. Venice's income was still huge, Venice had a great doge and very good advisors, but for reasons I am not 100% sure of the force limits had decreased dramatically.

Venice's trade league did not exist any more, and Venice's COT wasn't as strong as it used to be. That's something Venice's elite should have thought of, before backstabbing Bohemia and then converting.

Still, Venice had by far the highest income of the world. That hadn't been affected by the conversion.

Conversion efforts were going slowly. Actually, they hadn't begun yet, only in Venice a missionary was active.

A new core had been acquired through a border dispute : Tamaulipas (Castille). Now Venice had SIX uncontested claims : Wolof (Sweden), Tucujlandia and Guatemala (Aragon), Oltenia (Wallachia), Macedonia (Ottomans) and Tamaulipas (Castille). Which meant -1.8% prestige yearly !

Venezia wasn't one the biggest COT any more, but Powhatan was about to become the biggest. Still, Venice had three COTs and alogether probably still the greatest COT value.

1617-1624 : Between two wars

In 1617, while waiting for our manufactory in Chur to be ready, we decided to do something about our colonies in North America.

It took us a while, as it required some exploring, but by January 1619 the Cherokee nation had been annexed.

In 1622, we finished the manufactory in Chur. Now we had several manufactories in Northern Italy, maybe we were preparing the country for industrialization !

But the real news was the diplo-annexation of Rome, which together with the Popery Act gave us a whopping 1.3 missionary a year. Luxury !
Later we sold Avignon to Dauphine, as we didn't want to get stuck with an uncored province, which was difficult to defend.

The next mission was to conquer Pressburg, Austria. Which obviously would prompt Bohemia's intervention. Troops were already in position.
This time we would fight against Bohemia and Austria at full strength.

We had several (bad) generals, which we created when we got hit with the -20 land , +10 navy tradition event.

We had converted some central provinces, and some missionaries were active. But it would obviously take a lot of time till we would manage to convert Venice fully to Reformed.

The year 1623 had been a good year, as we had earned a lot of money through an event, don't remember which one.

The Doge Modigliano had died in misterious circumstances, he had been replaced by less talented Francesco Rovigo. But Venice hadn't changed course. The advisor team was first class. Venice had managed to pay back her debts, and her trade income kept increasing.

Map of Venice and of the world in December 1624.

1624-1629 : The war for Pressburg

We started the conquest of Pressburg against Austria, and as expected Bohemia declared war on us. So did England, Defender of the Catholic faith, and Austria's allies Dauphine and Brandenburg.

It seemed liked a good plan, but it didn't work out. Bohemian troops overhelmed us in Schwaben, Tirol, Trient. Against the Austrian, it went a little better. But the situation became soon critical.

By October 1625, the situation hadn't improved. The Bohemians were seiging our eastern provinces...

we weren't getting any advantage against the Austrians and the Brandenburgs...

While in Italy, we had let Bohemia march in Lienz.

As the situation had become dramatic, and it was obvious we had a morale problem, we broke our rule and claimed the title of DotF. And we started recruiting as if there was no tomorrow, luckily we had started the war having high manpower.

All of our troops were in Europe, but at least on the sea we ruled and we blockaded England. There was no fighting overseas.

By March 1626, we had managed to take Dauphine and Brandenburg out of the war. Dauphine out of the war meant that at last Burgundy may have come and help us.

We badly needed help, as we kept losing ground. Tirol and Trent had fallen, Bohemian troops were seiging Treviso und luckily our fleet made sure Venezia was going to be safe.

In July 1626, at last, Pressburg had fallen. The situation in Italy was still critical...

And Burgundy couldn't be bothered to help us.

In August 1626, we had made peace with Austria and fullfilled our mission. Pressburg belonged to us. In the meantime we had peaced England as well, so the only problem that was left was peacing Bohemia - which was not going to be easy, as they thought they had the advantage.

The next mission was "Retake Partium".

In December 1626, at last, Burgundians troops were coming to help finish this war.

By November 1627, Bohemian troops had been kicked out Italy and the war had been brought to Bavaria. But it was still going to be a long war.

In fact, in October 1628, hardly any progress had been made.

And the Hungarian provinces hadn't been liberated yet.

The Bohemians had still resources and manpower, and the Doge didn't want to be remembered as someone who had beaten Bohemia only thanks to Burgundian help.

By March 1629, the war had become a Burgundian-Bohemian war, and Venetian troops were hardly making a difference.

Therefore he was relieved when at last Bohemia accepted a white peace. Venice's manpower had been badly drained, and it would take a generation to recover it fully.

This was the map of Europe in December 1629.

Venice was at war again, opportunistically, as Aragon was having a very hard time against England - and we still had two cores on Aragon.

To exploit this opportunity, we had put off fulfilling our mission - conquer Abomey.

1630-1639 : Second "World War" (1)

In February 1630, the war against Aragon was already over. Venice had acquired two cored provinces, Guatemala and Tucujlandia.

Then we waited some years, to recover manpower. At last, in 1636, we felt strong enough to declare war on France, so that we could fulfill our mission : conquer Abhomey. England, as Defender of the Catholic faith, and their allies Prussia and Münster joined the war as well. At the same time we had to help Lithuania with their crusade against Georgia. Our nemesis Bohemia was busy fighting Morocco.

In August 1636, additional enemies had declared war on us, among other Austria and Portugal. That wasn't as bad as it seemed.

And it was a true global war, as we were fighting in North America, South America, Africa and the East Indies. This also meant we had the opportunity to seize new colonies. We had uncontested naval superiority.

In the East Indies, we had already seized he colony of Demak, and we would be soon seizing others too.

Fighting against so many enemies was of course not easy, but we had allies too. With help from Burgundy and Savoy, we gained the advantage in France, while not committing troops against England and in Iberia.

The Austrians had caught us somewhat by surprise, but we would be able to bring reenforcements soon.

By August 1637, in fact, we had neutralized the Austrians and occupied their country.

By October 1638 we had peaced Prussia and Portugal. And we were getting the upper hand against France and Austria.

We had occupied Abomey in Africa, and there was some minor fighting in America.

But the real progress was being made in the East Indies, where he had seized almost all of the provinces we wanted to seize from the French and the English, while we had temporarily lost Demak to Khorasan. In fact it was only Khorasan troops we were fighting there.

In December 1639, we had peaced Austria, who had to release Styria as an indpendent state.

The only war we were still involved with was against France and England.

Regrettably, this AAR finishes here, as I am very busy atm. I have changed job, town and country, and have new responsibilities.

Anyway, it is of limited interest now, as EU4 is out. Thank you for following.

Regrettably I stopped playing completely.

It would have certainly been an interesting story to tell, as it wasn't easy. I stopped playing in 1671.

These are the maps in 1671. There have been wars against all the European powers, and I sticked to the rules. But last time I played three months ago, so my memories are blurred.

I spread the Reformation faith. I was planning to change tag and play on as Burgundy, trying to form the HRE and so on.

But, regrettably, this AAR has to finish here.
