Remember there are actually four different sets of recommended nations at the 1444 start: one for Europe (the default one), one for Asia, one for Africa, and one for the New World.

I don't think most new players that would choose based on those picks remember that though. So potentially having ROTW nations in the most visible slots could up their pick rates?

Maybe even a whole new default bookmark set, with a few picks from throughout the world rather than only European.

Didn't know , well then I would replace Burgundy or Sweden with Venice and Byzantium.
The first for Diversity and far more interesting , the second for the Superhard task!

Recommending Byzantium is against what the devs want. People are already playing it to an absurd degree like it was the hardest challenge possible, without looking at the hundreds of similar or more challenging and interesting possibilities the game offers.

Well, there aren't nearly as many Byzantium threads these days, all the strats work from one degree to another based on luck, so there's not a lot to talk about that's specific to them anymore. They can't take away any more cores and such like they used to do every patch.

For example, on the 1444 start there would be the ones there are now plus or minus whatever and then say Ajuraan, Juanpur and Cusco. Is that something that could be done?

Which situations are easiest for experienced players and what's easiest for new players is quite different.

When you step into the realm of what's interesting, well, it gets quite subjective.

Well they say Swedenand burgundy are an interesting faction to play in this age ... I refer to 1444 , Its odd that Sweden is even there actually when most of the action in that period was seen actually in Italy with the Renaissence and so on , I would at least add Venice in that period as was before rather than yet another Feudal northern kingdom.

I have a followup question: is your data granular enough to see how people clicked to that nation in the first place? (I.e. does it track whether they clicked it on the map or clicked it as an interesting nation?) Because that would be super cool to know.

Each of the bookmarks has its own list of "interesting choices," though only Rise of the Ottomans recommends three nations for new players.

Who actually plays the suggested nations anyways? I've spend hundreds of hours into this game, yet I've never played as England, France, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Poland, Ottomans or Russia. It's no fun starting that big. I did form the Netherlands first, after three tries and you learn a lot from those games. I've played Sweden as only easier and suggested nation after that. Then I went on to the Papal state, Bohemia, Japan, Brittany, Lubeck, Tunis, Korea, Ethiopia, Bahamis. And then went on to challenging campaigns Riga, Persia, knights into Jerusalem and Hamburg is the one I did last. Much more fun in my opinion, I never really started with a major power. Sure in the end I became major powers with all of them, but then I care for my carefully build up nation and think it's fun. I started the others once, but I just don't like the fact I have won the game from the beginning... Anyways as far as I know I've now listed all campaigns I've ever finished, not that much actually....

I played only Spain and Russia in that list. But that's because I can form them with Aragon and Yaroslavl respectively

Well, I still think it is ok that recommended nations are European ones. They are far easier, especially now that you have institutions, and most of the players will be more familiar with the European map, even if there are obviously some Asian, and probably African players as well. After several games, you start looking around the menu and around the map, and you end up playing ROTW.
