They are lost to keep things simple and easy to calculate.

This just made attrition outside of combat a whole lot more interesting with what you do with your divisions.

BTW, will the AI have to be micro managed say if I ask them to redeploy somewhere and the AI decides to go right into a swamp and lose vehicles or will it take the least attrition-able way to redeploy somewhere?

Edit: Also, will they gain experience from losing vehicles left and right if they're being deployed from one place to another and not actually in combat?

Can you make it so that if you retreat from the province at the end of the battle (lose) you have higher loses than if you retain control of the provinces to simulate the recovery of vehicles? Like a 5 or 10% penalty for retreating units? Even greater if forced to withdraw without any organization left?

thats basically what reliability & attrition does in hoi4 ;)

Now that sounds like a good system :). Not just in and of itself, but also a great foundation for tweaking/modding as appropriate. I really like the way the systems of HoI4 seem to be coming together. The new attrition system sounds like it will make supply/logistics even more important to boot :).

It would be cool to have some kind of reduced vehicle loss for the winner of a battle to represent them being able to recover damaged vehicles.
