Alexandria, City Docks

Death creeped on the once bustling city of Alexandria, her streets and plazas empty from the Abbasid slaughter against the Mamelucks, who ruled Egypt for over two centuries. The Grim reaper has cultivated the souls of many innocents through the Abbasid scimitars, which cleansed Alexandria of her citizen Mamelucks.A dark cloud of sadness and fear encompassed all of Egypt as the power of the Abbasids grew with each passing day....

***

The governor of Alexandria,Lord Masud was already too busy to give any notice to the letter sent by the Venetians, he was cleansing Alexandria of the Mamelucki rebels.Though the majority of the nobles were already killed in the intial culling, there were still more in hiding, he wanted to make sure that the Caliph's demands were followed, the complete eredication of the Mamelucks. He dispatched Lord Amir of the Delta to recieve the gift from the Venetians and represent the Caliphate's intrests.

Lord Amir arrived with an entrouge of Gaurds to the docks, wearing a full military attire symbolizing the Caliphates Jihad against the heretics and Kaffirs. His face was lacking expression, and seemed actually frustrated by being appointed to Greet mere "Merchants".He sighed and bowed slightly "The Caliphate is at war currently, the Calipah is not able to leave Cairo, nor is the Governor of Alexandria who is currently busy in purifying Alexandria" His eyes darted at the stack of bodies visible by the docks."So how can I help you Captain?"

Captain Damiani bows deeply and with a florish to the man, and starts speaking Arabic. "I see that you indeed have your hands full, sir, and I am very sorry for interrupting you at such a critical time." He casts an eye toward the pile of bodies. "Purification is important! One day Venice shall purify Europe of the abhorrent get of Ugo and Hungary generally. But that is for another day." He took two steps forward.

"We are hoping to sail on to Cairo, to see the Caliph, to discuss matters of trade. If you're busy killing a large part of your population, it may seem a small matter, but trade remains the blood of empire, and certainly an empire like that of the Abbasids should have an interest there. So, to make my request short, so that you may get on with your bloody but just work, we'd simply like to sail on to Cairo."

Alexandria, City Docks

The Abbasid merely grunted, he could see the note of sarcasim in the Venetians words. If the infidel infront of him wasnt a dignitary he would have sliced him in two.He sighed and quickly barked orders for his troops to check the Venetian ships "Mere protocol, no body is trusted in these times, Im sure you can understand" he said with a devlish grin.

Moments later...

After a quick inspection of the ships cargo and storage, Amir allowed them to set sail into the Nile, and reach the city of Cairo.

Abbasid Palace

The Caliph admired the priece of grape he held, transfixed on the simple yet beautiful structure in his hand.A servent arrived carrying a tray with a glass of Ezemrah wine, and presented it to the Caliph. The Caliph took the glass and sipped the wine slowly, walking torwards the bernada of the Palace overlooking the Nile.Ahmed El-Muttawakil entered the chambers and joined the Caliph.

"Salam Alekum my lord...fine day, is it not?" Ahmed bowed , resisting the urge to show his pain as his back rineged.
"It is, though I hear the Almohadis are giving our troops trouble in the West, but my eastern commanders say they halted the Persians and annhilated the Mamluki armies in Damascus, I am pleased..."
"Indeed my lord, we have come so close to realizing the dream of a new Caliphate rising from the ashes"
The Caliph sighed "If it were only that easy..."
"What ever do you mean my lord?"
"We have much to do, it brings much unease to me, we have the Persians in the east, the crusaders, the Almohadis, the Turks. We have no allies, even the people of Egypt are not trustworthy
"
The last remark intrigued Ahmed "Our policies were never pleasent to the people of Egypt...but they will grow to love us ..... in time"
The Caliph snorted "Oh yes, as they have when news broke out we signed a treaty with portugal, or the time we helped the Almohads against the Iberian Christians..." he said with a sarcastic tone.
"All with due reason my lord..." he wanted to elaborate, but seeing the Caliph's rising anger, it would be best if he remained silent.

The Caliph stirred his drink and took another sip "It is time we declared the Caliphate, I can not wait any longer, I shall reclaim My birth RIGHT!" he hurrled the glass unto the floor, smashing it into thousands of pieces.Ahmed jutted for a while, his terror visable from the sudden anger , but he soon returned to normal "My lord...it is too early to do such a thing...We still have the rebels to deal with..."
"SILENCE, I have been ridiculed in every court for too long, it is time to put an end to all the enemies of bani Abbas, let every mosque call for my Caliphate, my ancestors shall rise again!"
