Hey Guys,

I'm sure this is covered somewhere, but I've been searching forever and can't find anything. I'm King of Sicily and Africa. I also control about 1/3 of Spain. I have a respectable reputation, +3 stability, all of my vassals are loyal to me, and none have the rebellious trait. However, all of a sudden, a bunch of them keep breaking off from me. What else could be causing this?

I did force-vassalize several Muslim rulers in Spain (to keep from getting a bad reputation.) They don't particularly seem to be the problem, though. I have had one or two switch loyalties to the Turks (without any message to me, which was a pain.)

Most of the vassals that break away are close relatives. Neither of my sons have produced heirs, so I'm trying to keep my brothers and nephews happy since one of them is probably going to be king some day. I'm approaching 60. To keep them in the fold, I go to war and force-vassalize them again.

Two other items. I did look at one and there was a -5% loyalty for personality trait, but it wasn't rebellious. What others have a direct impact on loyalty. I am not aware of any. Also, I have a countess whose profile sheet is blank. No spouse, children, heirs, anything. Will her territories return to the crown when she dies? There are others without heirs, but I'm listed as the successor.

Are any of those your rivals??

I am not aware of any other events that might cause your vassals to break vassalage during high loyalty. So if they are not rivals and do not have the Rebellious trait, then I can't think of anything.

Maybe it can happen when they are not in the same region as where you have provinces, then they might get events to break away. Can't remember though.

As for loyalty affecting traits, lots of them have an effect on loyalty modifiers. You can see more here: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?380922-New-Traits-FAQ-for-Deus-Vult

Thanks. One of the vassals that revolted is a rival, the other two are not.

What is the best way to handle that? Just keep putting him down and re-vassalizing him? He doesn't have a lot of troops, so it doesn't take me much time. He's in Africa. I still hold Tunis and I have it fairly well built up, so I just march that army through his provinces until he submits in a couple of months. Like I said, he's in my line of succession and I don't have grandkids, so I didn't want to push my brother out totally. Fatal flaw on my part?

As long as you can keep him down it is not a fatal flaw ;)

Are the others his vassals??

If you need him around, then you'll probably need to keep re-vassalizing him. Well you could strip him of his titles, but that would probably destroy his prestige even more, thus you might be inherited by someone who has -300 prestige.

If there are others in your family that are better suited, you could "take care" of the revolter ;) .... just be sure to strip him of titles first. Makes it easier and less costly to have him "fixed".
