It would be awesome if faction claim pressing took into account the legitimacy of the person whose claims are being pressed. Like a guy with a strong claim and two sons is more likely to be raised up my a faction than a 70 year old with a weak claim and no children.

This happened to me once. Starting as a count in Byzantine, plotting to be Emperor, I had systematically weakened the empire.....funny story, a few years back, the HRE pressed a claim on the whole ERE, but the new HRE didn't inherit it (still feudal elective).....and anyway, so the ERE's in chaos and all the Byzantine vassals hate the new Emperor, and so they plot to install a 60 yr old mayor with bad stats to the Imperial Office.........ERE is now open elective......so ridiculous

Sounds realistic for the ERE.(considering what I learned from the forums.)

The problem with that is that the heir will default to the closest relative, so you don't get messy successions nearly as often as you would in real life... which means that it will often default to a strong, successful relative, sometimes the very person that was deposed. I've actually seen the AI pull that one.

You know, now that I think of it, this is a drawback... I wish that if there were no lineal successors to the throne, then the successor should be decided by elective (one time only, after which the normal succession kicks in again)

This should make the claim wars interesting...

Would be really cool if Paradox implemented elective when there is no heir. That was a common system in Europe to resolve a succession crisis.

That would make some sense, though it was also common for the liege to take the titles from a vassal that died without a clear heir.

This is also related to one of my favorite evil and borderline gamey tricks. When my ruler dies and a child inherits (extra low demesne), I hate having to give my choice counties away. So, I find a courtier that likes me, has low/no fertility traits, and 0 intrigue, and then get him some 45year old wife. Then I give him my extra counties to keep warm while I grow up. Fast forward to my characters adulthood. My poor vassal finds poison in his wine, a snake in his bed, bandits on the roads, etc, etc. It is sad, but when I am not at my demesne cap, people that make me their heir tend to notice the wine/beds/roads aren't very safe.

Yeah, both existed systems for vassals (with title reverting back to the liege being the most common) but for independent realms and vassal kingdoms election should be the default solution. Now of course there also need to be a mechanism to dispute the election result and destroy the kingdom title.
