As Persia, rivaled to Ottomans, with Oman as a vassal... I made a small mistake when I enabled divert trade, and the Omani liberty desire went to 52%. "No sweat, I'll just let it cool down." But almost immediately, the Ottomans supported their independence, and that gave them an additional ~120% liberty desire. So... about 170% total, effectively.
Well, over time, I've managed to fight that way down. Lately, it's been at around 11%, and I'm 86% done annexing them (long road to annexation since I have no DIP ideas, and I've annexed others like super-Syria & Afghanistan), plus I've had chronic legitimacy problems. They still get about 85-90% LD from the Ottoman support... even though it's all a moot point now. A war w/ the Ottomans has come and gone, and now another is beginning. But STILL they are supporting Oman's independence... after all this time.
I thought after a vassal reached loyal status, after a certain period of time (if not instantly), they would break these external alliances / support. In fact, I actually thought it was automatic. Anyway, they've been loyal now for many, many years.
So.... WAD? Looking on the bright side, it's taken up a dip relations (potential ally) slot from the Ottomans, for a long time.
