One way to keep large empires at bay would be to allow the vassals to invite foreigners into their faction under certain circumstances such as having an alliances.

Historically the King of France encouraged the vassals of the Angevin empire to revolt.
Thats a good Point. There are probably more cases like that and if the faction have the backing of foreign realms it would make them quite a bit more powerful and thus harder to suppress.

I think somewhat it will be represented in CK3. Dynasty or house head can give commands to dynasty members even in other realms. Question is how much influence they have.

Would be nice to give instructions to dynasty members to start factions and plots in other realms to archive goals

The house head have hook on the house members which can probably be used to get characters to join factions: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...emes-secrets-and-hooks.1289167/#post-26052038

Also should definitely be able to side with invading foreigners if we like them better, barring valid checks such as, I'm being ruled by a liege of a different religion and the invader - likely an adventurer is of my religion.

We should also be able to support peasant rebels, at least if they're not in our realm.

Those were also legally his vassals though; that's, in CK2 terms, getting your de jure vassals de facto vassals to revolt.

Rebels in general actually. But I also think we should be able to join forces with an invader, and I don't think we should need any particular excuse for it other than the liege not following our advice... that is if Paradox manages to make a system where vassals can influence anything. - we couldn't in CK2.

The game is about characters and more Active vassals make alot of sense, especially if they go with fewer but more powerful vassals as they seems to be doing. Ck2 vassals are too passive in my opinion and don't seems to care about anything other than opinion or so.

To be fair, the game didn't allow for them to care about anything. They had absolutely no say in politics - because politics didn't exist in CK2. They had no say in governing the country or any sway in how you ruled - because such mechanics was not present. It didn't matter whether the king was a weak imbecile or the Lionheart, they acted the same. Regentship didn't matter, and it was pretty arbitrary who and how to obtain it - and it didn't really give you any benefits.

Generally speaking, CK3 need to a lot more interaction and options for vassals and rulers a like in how they govern their realms which in turn should lead to various dilemmas and choices. A weak ruler is more likely to bent to aristocratic pressure, a shrewd ruler might bent but ask certain conditions while a strong ruler might have the power to simply refuse. The aristocrats themselves are not homogeneous and some might have vested interests in seeing the ruling dynasty getting stronger. "Interests" is also something we need to see. In CK2 the only interest I ever had when I played as a vassal was to conquer my fellow vassals.

on the topic of fleshing out rulership and politics...

I understand that most people prefer the game mechanics to include most important things. But i really feel that the event-chain multi choice stories are a great way to add stuff to the game like fleshing out rulership etc. They can be used for anything and I really love them. They make it feel more like a story and less like a game which suits how I play ck2. I just wish they used a lot more of these event chain stories. It’s not like they are hard to add.

Oh, and also Vassal interests should have the possibility to align with yours.
I didn't like the faction system because it's sole purpose seemed to screw the liege over and there was no real way to interact with it other than waiting until they rebel and either winning or losing.
