I do use Conclave and don't have problems with vassals revolting either.

Granted, I didn't have problems with vassals revolting pre-Conclave either, but now I have to do less work to keep the factions down. Previously I had to give out more gold/honorary titles, now I just throw a few council seats to moderately talented faction members and use the generic advisor slots if none of the reasonably strong faction members are good at anything.

It's the only CK2 DLC with negative reviews on Steam, I'm not touching that with a 10-foot pole. I haven't heard anything good about it on the forums.

A lot of what people are complaining about is stuff from the free patch and not the DLC (namely, shattered retreats and threat). The council mechanics are actually pretty good, in particular, they take what was previously a calculation with one correct option (just pick the guy with the best stat) and turn it into a choice (do I give this slot to somebody more qualified, or do I use it to pacify a vassal?).

I filter out people who don't know what they are talking about. If you truly think that most people think that shattered retreat and coalitions came with the DLC, not the patch, then you might be trolling.

For instance, many people didn't like the new education system that came with the DLC and has nothing to do with the patch.

since were on this topic, i have a question about the conclave dlc, why do muslims have councils? shouldn't the law be sharia law? and shouldn't the sultan or caliph be the sole decision maker in the realm?

That's because it finally balanced how overpowered Way of Life was. WoL gave extreme amount of stats so that 20s or even 30s was easy to reach. And then you teach children, leading to a primary stat in high teens and a secondary 12+ for every 16 year old.

In a sea of unwashed AI groomed characters that was OP as hell.

What bothers me to no end is that factions are systematically against you. That's not how things were. People who like you should support you. Loyalists were a thing. So were people who believed that a strong ruler with all the power was a good thing for the realm. There's supposed to be a spectrum, from "I want my ruler to be my puppet" all the way to "that guy has divine rights and I like it". And your average ruler did not spend all his time placating people left and right: playing factions one another was also, again, a thing.

Yes, the current system is manipulable so you can deal with it, but it's also completely uninteresting.

Conclave makes vassal management easier unless you don't bother to use the new tools it gives you... which is on you. If you insist on ahistorically running a pure meritocracy for your council, then best of luck to you.
Even without Conclave I tend to run only a partial meritocracy. E.g. my Marshal isn't always the guy with the best Martial score; often the guy with the best Martial score is also the guy with the indispensable trait like Siege Leader whom I need in the field and I give the actual council position to a noble with a score that's more in the "good enough" range. Spymaster, personal loyalty is as important as skill: if the top Intrigue guy hates me he's very dangerous, what with the plot power buff for being spymaster.

Even without Conclave I tend to run only a partial meritocracy. E.g. my Marshal isn't always the guy with the best Martial score; often the guy with the best Martial score is also the guy with the indispensable trait like Siege Leader whom I need in the field and I give the actual council position to a noble with a score that's more in the "good enough" range. Spymaster, personal loyalty is as important as skill: if the top Intrigue guy hates me he's very dangerous, what with the plot power buff for being spymaster.
With the spymaster, fair enough, though you can usually bribe the top intrigue guy in the realm (who, more often than not, seems to be a courtier... but then I like to search for councilors to invite to my court) to like you will enough. The marshal-- even if you're not picking the guy with the best stat per se (though in my experience the guy with the highest stat isn't usually the guy with an important trait, but our experiences may differ), you're still choosing positions entirely on merit, it's just that some of your higher ranked people are needed for even more important assignments. There is no sense of "well this really powerful vassal doesn't really deserve a council seat, but the nature of feudal politics means that he'll pitch a fit if he doesn't get one." and having to decide where you're most willing to accept a sub-par councilor.
