The current setup is still imperfect. My problem now is that playing as Russia, i've gone to war with Poland (1617 scenario) and not wanting to take a big badboy hit for Ukraine, I took the provinces and released a vassal Ukraine. The problem now however is that every 5 years Poland is picking on what looks to be a weak Ukraine, drawing me into the war. Obviously I have little difficulty in smacking the Poles about, but as soon as I peace out (Ukraine as the one declared war on is the leader) Poland will just come in and make a mess out of my vassal. I'm utterly unable to protect Ukraine simply because Ukraine will never make peace with Poland until after I do.
I'm not sure how best to fix the situation as I understand this is to fix some exploit - yet it has unfortunate consequences like the above. I remember at one time we had a system where the country with the highest vp's was the leader, I always thought that worked rather well. Obviously though there were problems as we still don't have it...
So yeah, short of editing the save file every 5 years or utterly destroying Poland i'm not sure what to do here.
