Vassalization

I have made Hungary my vassle (as a result of war), it has been 10yrs, relations 190+, we share a land border, I am a larger country, but I can't annex them. The only thing I can think of is that we are different religions, (I'm orthodox, hungary catholic) but I have already made a catholic country my vassal...

any answers/comments greatly appreciated!

I thought something I wrote sounded funny, I have made a catholic country my vassal but I haven't diplo-annexed a catholic country... please don't tell me that I can't diplo-annex a country of a different religion?

Good call, I was too busy to notice that Hungary was in a war...
I waited until the war was over, and sure enough the ANNEX button was available. However, Hungary rejects annexation every time I offer it, even when relations are at 198,199... It may be because I have a lot of BB points? If that is the reason, how did I get BB down again?

you can wait, edit or lose provinces. That's the only three ways to do it. I think stability, monarchs diplorating and army size are all more important than bb though. You should try to improve these. Also, if you decide to wait the chances increase all the time until 30 years form vassalization date

The only way to get BB down is to stop annexing people and wait a while, or to release vassals and/or cede territory. If you want to annex Hungary, build up your economy and military so you are much stronger than them, and keep trying. They'll accept eventually (chances to annex improve the longer a country is your vassal, another reason to take it easy), even if you have sky-high BB, provided you're strong enough.

The time of vassalization makes a huge difference. 10 years is long enough for a country vastly weaker than your own, but 30 years improves your chances considerably.

Ya, Hungary is still a pretty big country, maybe half the size of my territory... I guess I will just keep trying though...

Ok, I had Wallachia as my vassal for about 20 years, and every few months I would try to ANNEX them but they kept rejecting it. They were only 1 province, whereas I am about 20, and my army is at least 3 times the size of theirs... I dont get it!! Our relations were continually at 198,199...

After about 25 years, they finally broke off and stopped being my vassal... I don't understand this very well

if your monarch diplorating is really low or suffers temporary insanity, you can forget about making diplomatic moves. Better to wait until the insanity is over or wait for a new king.

You can try annexing them after 10 years, but it is better to wait longer. If Wallachia is 1 province & you wait 25 years, it won't be hard to annex them. One thing i'm not certain about is whether BB ratings have something to do with it..

You might just have bad luck.

No matter how beneficial the circumstances are, there is always some chance that the other nation will refuse annexation, and there is always some chance it will break vassalage. Even if you're a big country with a great monarch.

wait until 30 years before attempting. 30 seems to be the "magic number" -- after 30 years as a vassal, they pretty much never refuse...

I suggest triggering the event that adds to your monarch stats with f12. although it is cheating, I tend to reload alot in this situation (it's annoying as shit to constantly pay for relations) anyway so I don't feel to bad about doing it. :/

I can't remember exactly what the command is, I think it's either "event 43014" or "event 94013"
