I just wanted to post a little something here, because I'm fairly pissed off. I had an empire in my last game, I made vassal wars illegal, and it's completely and totally ignored. The @$$hats running my empire below me do what the want, when they want, and basically ignore any laws I make. I want to know why. I've read up on this with several forums that say because it only applies to my de jure area. Correct me if I'm wrong, but as emperor, is my de jure area not the WHOLE GOD*MN empire?! What's the point of having an empire if you have absolutely no control over it? I can hardly do anything, and don't get me started on this 'realm peace' crap. It's as effective as making vassal wars illegal.

As Emperor I can't do a f*cking thing because I'm having to watch what every last @$$hat in my empire is doing because they're declaring war, consolidating each other, and it's basically total chaos that you can't control. The game is fun on a small scale, but as it gets larger, hell no.

Now let's get started on those f*cking horse lords. The last, I took over enough area around italy to form my empire, after that, it went to hell. I literally couldn't unpause the game because every 5 f*cking seconds an 'adventurer' is trying to burn down something of mine. I mean literally, I kill one, another comes right behind him, and another, and another, and another, and another, and another, and another. It literally makes the game impossible to play because it turns into a game of ring around the empire because those f*cking horse lords apparently have an unlimited supply of suicidal morons.

Re: Vassal wars. So you sort of managed to beat up my last liege lord, and think I should care too much about your attempts to impose laws upon me as a cruel enemy oppressor? Well, you aren't here, you are off over in the next country, so I am going to carry on doing what I feel like unless you come and stop me.

Re: Horse Lords: So you can take the land but not hold it? How apropos?!

You are confusing de jure and de facto. You are in de facto control of the empire. Unless/until newly conquered areas drift inside it they are not in your de jure area.

Also in general, at least in Western Europe, kings and emperors weren't the absolute rulers people seemed to think they were. That's a post-medieval concept.

The real annoying thing about vassal wars law is not being able to see if other territories have it. Same with illegal realm inheritance.

In my current game I really want swear fealty to the empire of Tibet so I can reclaim some old territory without fighting the whole empire but have no way of knowing if I'll he allowed to declare internal wars

The de jure empire map should show it in the tooltip for counties.

If you think the viking "adventurers" are bad you haven't yet tried to make a living in early game Central Asia, where the Nomads do the same except with faster and stronger cavalry armies.

This actually varied quite a lot.

In France or the HRE vassals could mostly do what they wanted. In the ERE, or in England, or Poland?

Nope.

I said Western Europe for a reason ;) The English nobility were decent at pushing back, though the English kings had a lot more authority than the others nearby. I will admit, as, with any generality, the answer is always "it varies".
