I am playing as Byzantine Empire now and I just attacked 3 independent Duchies in Sicily, which won independence from Kingdom of England. I've had 2 claimants for those territories there so I put them on the throne as my vassals, last claim I used with de jure Empire. I didn't have Kingdom of Sicily, same as England didn't got it. For few years it was peacufully there. After this problem appeared in Duchy of Apulia - my vassal. There was a Duke there with 2 provinces and his one vassal countess in 3rd county from this Duchy. This countess made a faction and declared war against her liege - and my vassal Duke of Apulia. Problem is that she declared war for a claim of... King of England. Hold a moment, how it is possible that she was allowed to press a claim of foreign, independent territory ? And I coulnd't do nothing with it. I couldn't imprison her, I couldn't revoke her title, I couldn't join my vassal war. And this war wasn't only against Duke of Apulia, but also against my rule there, cause if she would won, Kingdom of England would get it. Pathetic situation - county outside me to put any claimant on throne must declared war against me. And here is situation that she wass pressing foreign claims and I couldn't no nothing. Ok, I could excomunicate her, but due to medium Crown Authority noone wouldn't attack her. I solve the problem, but it wasn't a sollution as I wanted - I've sent much gold to Apulia, reloaded as it, bought mercenaries, returned to my Byzantium and I was paying for Apulian mercenaries. But it wasn't a sollution I wanted - honestly, I think this is not working as it should. Revolt like that should be against me, or T should got at least some possibilites to stop her....

First of all, I believe you meant "outside" instead of "within".

Don't be surprised. If they feel that they can win, the AI (your vassal of vassal) can and will declare war to press their claims. Remember: Only the character being declared war upon needs to be independent.

Just get absolute CA if you want any independence of your vassals gone. However, wouldn't you like to be able to declare war on outsiders when you yourself are a vassal? Also being a complete despotic ruler isn't always a good idea, if you give away some of your weaker border Kingdoms thevassal can often add a lot to your kingdom and help absorb straggler states.

I guess You didn't understand me. I am emperor of Byzantium and liege of Duke of Apulia which got vassal - one county, in de jure part of Apulia (forgot the name). There is nearby inpendent Kingdom of England which got claims to Duchy of Apulia. And now that county from Apulia is declaring war against liege (Duke of Apulia) and try to put King of England in Apulia. This means I am also loosing that territory from my realm. Crown Authority doesn't prevent vassal of vassal from attacking liege same as it won't affect plots and factions. So I can't stop vassal of vassal. I wouldn't say anything if that countess were attack for another claimant if he would stay inside my realm but here situation is different, she is trying to get Duchy out of my realm. For example, if county vassal is declaring independence war agaist liege - Duke, he would still stay inside my Byzantium as my direct vassal (he must defeat me if he want to move out of my realm). So that's annoying situation. Also I can't do nothing, I can't revoke that countess her title, I can't revoke Duke of Apulia his title as it is war for his title, I can't imprison her. What should I do, wait for King of England get this title and then declare war against him ? Honestly, this is not working as it should. This looks really silly, King of England can't press his claim cause I would crush him so he is using vassal of my vassal to get title - and she is fighting only with my duke, not me in spite of the fact that she is trying to harm my rule. Also there is one disadvantage comparing to CK I, I can't force king to resign from his claims...

He is Byzantine Emperor, his vassal is duke of apulia, and the duke's vassal is a countess, she has declared a war for the king of england's claim on the said duchy, but he cannot do anything to help the duke, since she is the duke's vassal, and if she wins the duchy will be the king of England's.

This, I can understand. But how is the countess related to the King of England? Strangers don't help to press claims.

Yep, this is real annoying. And sometime u thought after a claim war that contested title would stay in ur realm, but it just might not. I just found that an unlanded claimant from another court would stay a vassal of his original liege if he's put into prison by said liege before the faction which put him forth win the war. I was so angry and annoyed I reload and get that guy killed to stop those provinces leaving my realm...

Oh yes they do, and they do alot too, with factions

Ah! So, it's a faction war. I fail at analyzing faction wars.

Your best bet is to bump off the English King (or the claimant in general), as if I'm not mistaken, such wars are stopped once the claimant dies.

If that vassal doesnt try to improve relationship with his vassals (which ai usually dun), sometime later another claim war will just break out, this time a different claimant... u will have to wait till he gets a long reign bonus himself to stop this nonsense

Or, if our friend has a duchy, he might want to consider giving it to the countess, and bring her under his direct control.

that's actually brilliant, never thought of dealing with it like this. I might do this when a certain vassal of vassal becomes too annoying. Actually, I have a titular duke title to give him, which won't bring any malice for wants control of such and such counties. And I would always revoke it back when I like it. Thanks for the excellent advise
