Playing as bulgarian king under byzantine empire, i still lack Duchy of Vidin. I saw Vidin title owned by couple of old guy without son, after they died their heir is someone at other court. I invite the heir to my court, marry him matrinileal and give him some city for land. After that i kill the owner of Vidin. But after they die, my vassal go to become the next Duchy of Vidin with my daughter as his Duchess, and they become the vassal of Byzantine Empire, not me. Is hoping to expand by vassal inheritance is not possible?

Anyone know what is the formula about what will you get when as a king you declared war against another kingdom for a vassal duchy title? I never get the complete duchy when i fight for my vassal claim. Usually i try to find claimant of one duchy, give him land, declare war. For example from 1 Duchy with 3 de jure counties, at best i only get 2, sometime none of the counties, but only the duchy title for my vassal.

Were you Bulgaria yet? If you were just trying to form the kingdom, then pressing the claim of a man for a title equal to yours (a duchy) makes him independant from you. I experienced it yesterday when my abdicated Michael Doukas fought three wars in a row to finally acquire the necessary provinces to form Serbia.

Unless the Duchy of Vidin started independent, I don't see what is wrong here.

If my vassal inherit land/higher title = they are leaving me? Even when they are still lower rank than me?
I'm king under Byzantine empire, he is my mayor and got upgrade to duke, and he leave me to become direct vassal with Byzantine.

Yes, if they are of higher rank than you are, they leave your court.

Just wait for them to have a son and get the province trough inheritance. If your daughter is not your heir, change the law to elective heir.

Or kill the husband.

But he is lower rank, he start as my mayor and he inherit duke title, while my rank is King.

Changing my law now ... still feel strange because he is still lower rank than me.

My bad, I can't read.

I've had similar experience but my ruler was of lower rank. I guess the only option is inheritance or war.

He may have left your court because the duchy title of Vidin belongs to Byzantium and not to you, once you usurp it, that shouldn't be a problem anymore, or so I think.

Ho, I think I understand. Vidin was your ennemy's holding while your good mayor which had a claim on Vidin was your vassal. When you pressed the claim for him to become duke, he actually gained the current situation Vidin was in, which wasn't a sujetion to you. When he went from mayor to duke, he threw away his allegieance to you and became his own master (under the emperor). I believe you shouldn't have make him a mayor, but maybe even this kind of trick only works when you are the higher ranking in command. Byzantine crown authority might habve something to do with that.

Those are all assumptions, since I played really little to this game (since it just came out, I have other things to do, I'm at work and i played a little the demo)
