As Denmark, I had two vassals: Teutonic Order and Novogrod. Teutonic Order was also a member of my alliance with Sweden. At one point, Teutonic Order DoW'ed Novogrod and asked for my assistance. I joined in the war against Novogrod, but did not lose the vassalization I had with Novogrod. Shouldn't the vassalization automatically cancel itself upon DoW between lord and vassal nation?

This has been reported before, and is a little odd. Leaving vassals out of an alliance seems to invite everyone else to DOW on them, sometimes including your own allies.

Try guaranteeing the security of a non-allied vassal, that will at least give you the option of who you want to fight.

You bring up an interesting point. According to the manual, I should get a CB automatically against anyone who DoWs my vassal. Vassalization in this sense is simply a more lucrative way to 'guarantee' the independence of another nation.
