Vassal colonization question

So I'm currently working on WC game with the ottomans and things are looking pretty good so far, I'm almost done beating up spain and Portugal and plan on releasing them both again as vassals, or just straight up force vassalize them (I'm close), since I have been beating them pretty hard they haven't gotten the chance to colonize anything yet, so I'm wondering if they will colonize for me as my vassals, or if I have to do that myself.

You eat half their income, so it might be slower, but they should colonise, I guess.

If they can colonize they will, just like with a Portugal - Spain where if you are Spain Portugal will keep colonizing...

I PU'ed Portugal and Spain in my England game and they are colonizing Americas. When All Americas painted red yellow and green, boom! Integration!

FYI -- to correct earlier misinformation -- vassals don't actually lose income. The overlord's 50% of vassal tax revenue just materializes magically out of thin-air, costing the vassal nothing.

This is not true! Vassals do lose money:

I played Span and made Portugal a vassal early on (it took three wars to whittle them down to size). As a vassal, Portugal colonized the entire coast of Brazil up to the Caribbean for me while I colonized Africa. I was also able to feed expensive Berber cores from Morocco to Portugal who would pay to make them Portuguese cores. It worked like a charm! My only regret was annexing Portugal too early (to free up the diplo slot). I think Portugal was better as a vassal.

I wonder if it would be possible to make both England and Portugal my vassals? Sounds like a good idea for a future game.
