I've just finished a very successful reconquest war against Austria as the Ottoman Empire returning all but 4 provinces to my vassal Hungary who had been integrated by the Habsblob. Rather surprisingly 2 days after signing the peace treaty Scandinavia joined in a coalition against me. So I checked the coalition map mode and found the entirety of Europe in various shades of red and orange. While rather historical the last time I had been at war with a catholic nation was a couple of decades ago only taking 2 provinces, otherwise I had been busy fighting in the Caucasus, Egypt, Arabia and Persia.

I didn't check but no relevant amount of AE should have been present before the war, certainly none in Scandinavia. This was the peace treaty:

According to this I should have gotten a bit of AE for taking Görz, and Hungary a significant helping for taking most of its cores. Yet as the map in the background shows it got none and I everything. That is stupid.

I understand that with the way occupations can be transferred the overlord has to get some AE for taking stuff in the name of his vassal but considering that I could have returned cores AE free the result is silly. Even if this is WAD the peace deal interface and the notice do not make this obvious, quite the opposite actually.

Umh, you're indirectly conquering those lands for yourself. Hungary didn't even have a say in the peace deal. Why should they, your subject nation, get the AE? It's WAD and perfectly fine. Especially since vassal feeding is more powerful than ever.

All of these were cores I could have gotten them AE free if I had used core return instead of transferring the siege.

Then the UI needs to stop lying.

Not only is the AE given to the overlord when the UI specifically says it goes to the vassal, but the amount of AE given is the full amount despite the wars specifically being to press the legitimate claims of the vassal in the first place!

It's a stupid as hell, blatant lie from the UI that is twice wrong. If the AE is meant to go to the overlord, fine, but why even bother with the nonsense that is "pressing a vassal's claim" (a paid feature of AoW) if anything you give them results in non-discounted AE? You might as well have a blanket 'conquer anything' CB to use on their behalf, because giving them a claim or core or totally unclaimed province via annexing is all the same. It's ludicrous. You were better off pre-AoW just "returning cores" to your vassal.

I am thinking this is a bug.

It's a choice between AE or Diplo MPs

And why is that? Why does a functionally identical result have a difference here?

If there should be AE, fine, then it should not cost diplo points to return a core or to annex it directly to the vassal. Period.
If I start a war of "Reconquest" on Persia's behalf, then "Return Core" needs to be a 0 diplo cost option, as does "Annex Province" when Province=Persian Core is true.
If both of those options cost AE, fine. It should be discounted AE. If it applies to the overlord, fine. Make the stupid UI say so.
