Already a few hundred years into my first Utopia campaign and I'm enjoying it quite a lot. That is not to say I've gone without criticism, but I had a lot of nice thoughts as well such as the following:

"Argh, they still have it so the galaxy shape changes back to elliptical if you change the size. that's so annoying..."

"OK, fanatic xenophile and pacifist. And... materialist? Huh. I didn't think having some robots automatically created bias towards materialism. I guess? I mean what else am I supposed to do with a weakness trait?"

"THANK GOD I'm not coming across pre-FTL empires every alternate step. This one feels valuable. Ethics look like... militarist xenophobe. WHELP! Gonna watch them for a while until I feel I can keep them protectorate safely."
Literally a few years later
"Oh they blew themselves up. WHELP!"
Several generations later
"oH GDI I COULD HAVE ENLIGHTENED THEM and integrated them!"

"Oh, ok I'm right next to a fanatical purifier. Perfect time to be a non-aggressive. wOW even for a small nation their fleet is kinda strong." *Builds a massive 30k fleet* "There we go."

"Sweet, first ascension perk! Yeah! There's... not as many as I realized. huh... and we get 8 of these? That's a lot for such a small pool..."

"Wow these traditions are OP! At least they feel kinda OP. I'm kinda getting them pretty fast too... feels a bit too fast." *casually builds more farms that give unity cause of that one perk* "Yeah you get unity too fast. Traditions OP pls nerf."

"gOD I HAVE SO MUCH FOOD HOLY FFFFF-" *tries to sell food* "Nobody wants my food... is sad."

"Oh, I found that fanatical purifier nation I ma-aaaaaaaah holy goodness they've been busy!" *they own lots of planets*
Several decades later
"I wonder how my fanatical purifiers are doing." *seconds later* "Oh they made peace with somebody? Oh they got wrecked. Guess Fanatical Purifiers still can get wrecked pretty quick."

"Shouldn't I have gotten an achievement for that? I'm ironman and the thing said I'd get achievements. Aaw is it broken somehow?"

"wHY DOES NOBODY WANT TO DO MIGRATION?!" Oh everyone around me is living on savannah worlds. Can I have droids now pls?"

Edit: MORE THOUGHTS!!!

"oH! Apparently curators can become leaders! I am strangely OK with this. Can I have my achievement pls?"
"No seriously I should get the omnicultural achievement for this."
"gDI WHY DID I EVEN BOTHER WITH IRONMAN?!" *sobs*

"Wow OK I take it back orbital stations are not so OP. I wish I could frEAKING SPECALIZE these stations but every monkey in my empire keeps moving into them!" *Facedesk*
*continues to wish he didn't have a nice-guy faction that wants free migration for everybody*

"WHY CAN YOU NOT INDIVIDUALLY KILL ROBOTS NOW THAT IS DUMB!!!"

"fREAKING finally, a federation. Now we can proceed to conquer the galaxy wooo."

"Oh this is a new event! 'do fleet manuvers near your border' eh? It will make the fanatical purifiers mad? CAN DO!!!" :D
*makes the fanatical purifiers mad*
"Yeah, whatcha gonna do about it, scrubs?"

"I'm surprised my spiritualist faction isn't like trying to spread or make riots you'd think religion would do a better job propigating itself. 'Specially cause I have like 17 migration treaties."

"Sweet, first ascension perk! Yeah! There's... not as many as I realized. huh... and we get 8 of these?

After c500 years.. sure.

It's like Civ. The first few traditions are easy, but each consecutively costs more.. they also cost more the more planets you have (to a degree which can't really be overcome).

"Wow these traditions are OP! At least they feel kinda OP. I'm kinda getting them pretty fast too... feels a bit too fast." *casually builds more farms that give unity cause of that one perk* "Yeah you get unity too fast. Traditions OP pls nerf."

If you're taking civics which are specifically designed to give loads of unity I'm not sure it's really an issue if you're unlocking traditions fast. I struggled to unlock them in my first game.

"gOD I HAVE SO MUCH FOOD HOLY FFFFF-" *tries to sell food* "Nobody wants my food... is sad."

Maxing food is a good thing though. It seems to boost pop growth once you're at the cap, which since it applies globally now seems really good. I don't feel like food is a waste of time any more.

"I wonder how my fanatical purifiers are doing." *seconds later* "Oh they made peace with somebody? Oh they got wrecked. Guess Fanatical Purifiers still can get wrecked pretty quick."

It turns out not being able to do diplomacy when everyone hates you is really harsh..

Had the same thoughts when, as a spiritualist empire, I encountered an atomic age civ. They were spiritualist / xenophiles so I thought, "yea, they'll be a great addition to the empire! Hey, where'd the new primitive civ icon go? DANG IT!!"
