Thanks for more feedback!

I'll try to get the fourth update on today, since yesterday for me was rather busy.

*Edit: my school got closed due to bad weather (sleet and black ice on road) so I'll have plenty of time to write a good update!

Chapter 4: Arabian Nights
1886-1900

We will start off the update with attempting to war Yemen. Apparently, most of the Arab minors (with the notable axeption of Abu Dhabi) have increased their relations with me over time. Not surprising..

It's like they know what I'm up to!

We end up getting 6.7 infamy for that. Oh well.

Our new Indian Sea fleet, led by the ever glorious Alfred Ragland shall take the Zanzibar Guard and land them in Oman to start the invasion of Yemen!

For crown and country!

Abu Dhabi honors their alliance with Yemen. More icing to the cake!

We end up getting one of those "Liberty Shines" events that usually appear for Democracies and HMs. I guess they work for Africa too.

We then get this interesting pop-up.

Johannesburg is born!

We defeat the only Yemeni army in the area in the battle of Salalah. Not worth the screenshot.

We then start research on Strategic Mobility. I have really been neglecting my military tech...

After that's done, we will start Iron Muzzle-loaded Artillery. The besieging of the Yemeni regions is taking so long with the little 12K stack.

We learn that our expedition we sent for that flower thing has been eaten by Cannibals. Why, universe!?!

It is around this time that we add the war-goal to annex Abu Dhabi. Don't worry, they negotiate for themselves.

*prospector voice* Ye-hall!

The great powers of the world use South Africa as a battle-field of influence. Some will lose, while others will get influence.

We are independent, and getting more so!

Chine westernizes, but gets fractured when the sub-states don't join in.

The war comes to an end, and we get this beauty.

Oh yeah, and more opium-producing providence s!

During the course of the war, the UK breaks our alliance. How sad...

But we get an offer from Italy! They recently last one of their regions to A-H, but we decide to accept for now.

Social Science is next on our research page!

The Great War breaks out in Europe. It's between Austria-Hungary, Russia, France, Belgium and Swiss V.S. Germany, UK, Denmark, Netherlands and Spain. We should keep an eye out on this.

The Uber-Alliance v.s. the Freedom Powers.

The war has disastrous effects for the Freedom Powers, which ends the war rather quickly.

Try to re-cover from that!

The war promises that the Anglo-German alliance is the best out there in the world.

Next on the list, we have Realism to research. This time, the goal is to get that decision for the National Anthem that gives us prestige.

The UK offers us a alliance once again. I gladly accept, now that our differences have been resolved.

Finally, some of our colonies convert to states! The 1st to do so is Namaqualand!

Welcome to the Union!

Our research tree moves to Impressionism and then Expressionism. Man, I need to keep track of this.

The colonial Cape colony region finally gets statehood and joins the rest of the Cape Colony in union. Hurry!

Europe manages to stay quite for awhile. Build-ups are made and such, but all will come in vain.

We start research on Steel Steamers. We gotta start upgrading the navy!

We enact Woman's Suffrage. Hurrah for Constitutional Monarchies!

Thank you for your effort to make South Africa literately South Africa.

Then, the 2nd World War breaks out, but this time, it's Communist France and Austria-Hungary going up against Russia, Italy, Swiss, Serbia and Persia. Will the world remain at peace for once?

Also, Nejd is next to come into the fold.

Nejd has no armies whatsoever. Egypt honors their military alliance with Nejd, but we don't even have to land there to win. We defeat their naval force, but not before they land a small force in our Arab colonies.

Note Spain annexed Ethiopia, and now Russia is getting in the action.

We start research on Interchangeable Parts. Industry for the win!

Botswana is the next colony to get Statehood.

We start more research on High and Low Pressure Steam Engines.

That ends the update here! We are in the year 1900. Hurrah for surviving that long!

More states means more industrial score.

Admittedly, Namaqualand and Botswana don't have a lot of people yet, but with your healthcare reforms and a bit of internal migration (which you might be able to encourage via national focus, although I'm not sure), they should start contributing nicely after a while.

Nice little african nation, will you manage to become a GP ? Did you receive some migrants from Europe at some points or are they all going to America and Oceania ?

Although the annexation of Zulu really helps South Africa, since without Zulu South Africa has only one brigade...

I'm working on the next update as we speak, and I don't want to spoil anything, but I can say that we don't receive any migrants as a African nation. But something else does happen that makes all the difference.

Chapter 5: To infinity and beyond!
1900-1907

We start off the update with our newest member to the Union, Zambia!

Cheap Steel is the next thing to research shortly afterwords.

Soon after that, Zambezi is the next state in the Union.

We seem to be already near the GP zone. This should get interesting...

All this peace is boring, huh. We should start war once more. This time, we shall demand a concession from our neighbor Sokoto.

Okay, that's fine.

Then, something magical happens:

We are finally equal with the world!....sorta!

We are a Great Power! This means that we have more options in our diplomatic abilities and stats. We start influencing Portugal in a attempt to un-sphere it from the United Kingdom.

We are here to protect you, Portuguese!

Kazembe gains statehood and joins the Union.

We start sending in the Nigerian Guard to invade Sokoto, as our justification has finished and we are starting the attack.

Arrow-head.

We finally discover the Sokot army and engage for the attack. We surprise them at Akure and slaughter the unciv troops.

Peace is finally established shortly afterwords.

Much better...

Hereroland gets granted statehood.

Next to research is Organic Chemistry. We got to catch up.

Let's see how Europe is going, shall we?

Communist Wallonia. Europe is fine.

We offer communist Italy a alliance. They accept.

We get the "a place in the sun" event, and we chose for everyone to see our splendid glory!

We get Cruisers. Finally, modernizing the navy!

A red wind spreads in the upper house, causing a massive Socialist majority to form in the upper house.

Red John would be proud.

We get our 1st cored providence in Serowe!

Welcome to the family...

We get out 1st oil-producing providence in Brunei! Yehall!

We start research on Electricity.

We are asked if we want membership in the International Olympic Committee. We accept for some prestige and a loss of money.

Nobel peace prize is awarded to one of our thinkers. I feel special!

We find the North Pole, hurray for science!

The boxer rebellion wins in China.

An outrage!

Nokaneng is cored.

Then, we get called into a war by our ally the UK. What have you done now? What must you disturb the peace? Who is the enemy? We must all mobilize against...

The Sindi menace!

The UK and Indian minor puppets are able to put down the little Indian minor in a little while. Why did they British have to call us in?

We start research on High Sea Battle Fleet.

Supporting foreign abolitionism gives us prestige but decreases relations with Egypt. Why you still have slaves?

Your not building another Great Pyramid are you?

We core Karasburg.

We start influencing Colombia. We might as well get the Panama canal.

Fascist form in Sweden. Come on guys!

Well, your fine.

We start research on Point Defense System. We really need to upgrade our forts...

And that's it for the update! We managed to become a Great Power!

South Africa is swiftly becoming a force to be reckoned with. Keep it up only a couple of decades left to go!
Thanks!

I was wondering what was with the sudden quite on the AAR, but you sir finally broke the silence!

The next update will be out soon. I ended up playing a little ahead (but not to the end, just 10 years before it) so the next update may come in parts.

The reason I gotta say that it's taking awhile is the number of screenshots I got to upload to steam, then once again to imgur and then here. This particular session had almost 40 screenshots taken (of course I know it's 20 as the limit, but I use the others as reference rather than writing notes), so it's a process. Plus with school and all, I'm hoping to wrap up this AAR this week. Sometime later, I might ask everyone whom I should play as next, as I want to continue with these AARs, as they are fun to write and I get feedback on my playing rather from here rather than from the screenshots I post on steam.

I know how it is, my AAR I just did like three years of gameplay and ended with something like 70~ screenshots. Ugh. Getting them from steam, then formatting them...

Ayayayay. Take yer time.

Chapter 6 part 1: The Calm before the storm
1907-1914

We start the update with a new cored region in Angra Pequena!

Then....crisis!

ugh, another...Algerian crisis?!?

The people in it are fairly fine, and it's expected for the Anglo-German alliance to break this through.

But not everything is what it seems...

Windhoek is cored.

As was expected, the UK sides with Germany and Austria-Hungary with France. We decide to join the German-Anglo alliance. This results in the loss of Tlemcen to Algeria.

If you got eagle eyes, you'll notice Italy is a presidential dictatorship.

We start research on Bolt-Action Rifles.

We decide to fund the war effort in Colombia to get better relations boast. Shortly afterwords, I get a "liberty abroad" even, and the relations hit had to be with Colombia. Why?

Russia at this point has collapsed completely due to wars with Germany and Austria-Hungary. Now even Sweden is going into the fry!

German superiority in the world is established...for now.

We get fuel. Time for more factories!

Then something important happens!

The alliance has collapsed due to...restoring order to the Schlesinger. Okay...

This has left Germany diplomatically isolated. This only means...the others will pounce!

What shall occur of this?

For the 1st time ever, it seems that the Germans have finally been...defeated.

The days of Fredrick the Great avenged.

The Dutch offer us a alliance. I guess that's not weird at all...

A crisis in Bulgaria occurs. Germany backs up Bulgaria, while Austria-Hungary backs up the Turks. With the German defeat, the world knows who to turn to.

Humiliation at the hands of lesser powers.

We start research on the Mass Culture and whatever tech. We need a proper anthem!

Oil is discovered in Nizwa and Abu Dhabi.

The Times Today reveals some interesting things going on in the world:

Circled:What we learned in my Science classroom a day ago. Creepy...

Benn and Gabon gain statehood at the same time.

Japanese soldiers burn the Summer Palace in China.

Japanese conquest in Asia.

Then, a interesting opportunity arises.

Yes, very interesting....for conquest!

Madagascar has been released, and since we are in the safe, we can annex and conquer them!

We get 6.2 infamy justifying. Okay, you got me.

Zanzibar is granted statehood.

Hwange is cored.

We discover that a new alliance system has been established with France, Austria-Hungary and Russia. I call them the "freedom alliance."

The invasion starts in the northern part.

The wrath of over 48 brigades shall decent upon me!

We start research on Empiricism.

Finally, a proper anthem!

Hurrah!

We get the last Social reform, as we got the rest over time with our red majority.

Madagascar is annexed! They had too many stacks, so we had to send in the other army from Southern Rhodesia.

A good will!

Niger Delta is granted Statehood.

We start research on Integral Rail System.

The UK calls all her allies to yet another war, this time over Burma.

Germany offers us a alliance. We shall accept, but I fear bad things will result from this...

I'll look out for trouble.

We start research on Steam Turbines.

Then.....trouble comes to us...

I'll end the update here. Will South Africa and the Anglo-German alliance prevail? Or shall the Freedom coalition overcome and finally get revenge on Germany? Find out more when we hear from our South Africa once again!

Great update!

I would assume you're going to need to really encourage more soldier pops via national focus because 50 brigades simply won't do it in the battle fields of Europe. :(
