Vampires and minimaps!

Two questions.

1.) My minimap in the lower right hand went black and I can't see anything. Must have hit a key but don't know how to get it back.

2.) I need some gold so I pushed out east away from the bulk of my empire where there were some gold and gem mines. Problem is vampires keep popping up out of no where attacking me. Can't really spare any additional units as I'm at war with a rival mage and they are needed elsewhere. Fortunately I looted some treasure and got some death knights (can't remember the exact name) and they are able to hold the line at my one city. I really need to find out where they are coming from. Do they have a lair? I've scouted around and can't seem to find it.

If you got Paladins of Death, then you most likely already looted the vampires' lair. Vampires come from an Old Crypt, and you can get Paladins of Death from an Old Crypt as well. So if there are more and more vampires attacking you, there's likely another Old Crypt somewhere. Say, have you seen any wild Green Bats around as well?

The black mini-map is something I thought was fixed already. Reloading the game sometimes helps.

A patch a few weeks back said it fixed the mini-map, but mine still breaks every time I alt-tab. Loading a saved game doesn't fix it, only quitting and restarting for me. You can avoid it by playing in Windowed mode, but this game's windowed mode shows the frame, which annoys me more than not being able to alt-tab.

Yes I have been seeing green bats around. Ok so I need to look for old crypts thank you.

1) Restart the game and load your last save will solve your problem.

2) You can also get that "death knight" from building temple to dauros in undead city.

Ah, good. I wasn't sure but I've seen wild Green Bats coming from portals, so they must be coming from Old Crypts. If you need to see which creatures spawn from which nests, see the Nature wiki page. And if you see something spawn that's not listed, don't forget to add it to the page!
