Alright, listen up, dawgs. I'm still alive. The ninja frogs and killer potatoes (also known by their pseudonym "real life issues") tried to undo me, but I still live. I'm off my third shift, got a normal job, and took care of a few emergencies that distracted me from writing this.
However, everything is still good. Still have my screenshots, still have my save file, still have what I've written so far. So if you think this AAR is dead, guess again, suckaz.
Please continue this masterpiece, i just signed up for your AAR
I will, fear not. And welcome aboard! Glad to have you here!
Fantastic characters. And hopefully a more peaceful realm.
Though making sense of the AI's decisions can certainly be a challenge.
You are right about that. With a straight up AAR, it's easy because you can just say "LOL DAT AI, THO." With a narrative AAR, you're forced to explain why something like random rebellions or peculiar decisions. That will especially become more plain later on in this AAR.
On the plus side, when the AI does something drastic, it gives you a chance to write something memorable. (For example, the "Dragon Forest" chapter in this AAR.)
This was amazing! One of the best AARs I have read in a very long time. I particularly enjoy your vivid, haunting dream sequences, as well as some of the amazing character work you do. My favourites are Rheana, who is incredibly sympathetic character and it tortures me just how much trauma she endures over the course of this story. On the other side of the spectrum, Hugh Hammer is the most evil character I've read in an AAR in some time, and you do a fantastic job making him seem feasible.
Anyway, I just want you to know that this story has inspired me to finish first my novel, then my old AAR which I have left unfinished for too long, and then start another AAR. Thank you so much for showing me once again how much you can do in this medium!
I'm really, really flattered how much this AAR has inspired people, to the point that it's multiplied the number of AARs in the community. As my wife will tell you, I don't think that highly of myself, so hearing this really does make me feel like I'm contributing something to the community. To be told that I'm showing what can be done with this medium tells me it's definitely worth pursuing.
The dream sequences were indeed fun to write, and though they're not related to any even that happened at that time in the game, they all do hint at things that will unfold in the game in the future, both near and far.
As for Rhaena, I'm still surprised how much attention she's gotten, but I guess that shows I do a good job writing not only her, but female characters in general. And as for Hugh Hammer... yeah. He was a mixed bag. On the one hand, it is fun to write a villain that you love to hate... on the other hand, ya gotta write that stuff. My wife was horrified by the line where he threatened to have his men rape Rhaena one at a time.
Any way, welcome aboard, and I hope you enjoy the future updates!
