I have been using Steam since RC beta 1 back in early 02.

I love Steam and in terms of a digital store/online distribution package it is amazing. Question still stands, will it be on Steam or am i going to have to import it from the UK via amazon or somesuch?

I partially agree; I am not as much of a Steam hater as I was a few months ago but I would never buy I P'dox game from Steam. Ever since they started distributing their games on Steam there have been a huge number of threads dealing with various problems; from registration codes, to problems with patches to MP problems.

I don't think it has been announced but most, if not all, of their catalog is on Steam so I can't imagine why V2 wouldn't be.

I am mostly asking because V1 is not on steam ( 03 launch so it might be a tad old for steam imo) so i thought i would ask just in case.

As for the points of people having issues with steam it is just that, PEOPLE having issues with steam, not steams fault tbh.

(This thread is not about Steam persay as much as id like to discuss or get an answer about a steam release so try not to deviate TOO much.)

Every game that has been released in the last 4-5 years seems to be availabel on Steam and I can't imagine any reason they would cut down on the number of distribution platforms it would be available on. You have to wait for an official announcement, but I am rather certain it will be.

Although I buy all of my Paradox games from Gamersgate I love steam!

Selling V2 on steam would certainly be a good business move too, as a lot more people use steam than GG.

i think i over reacted with that "evil thing" i said.:D:)
i use steam. steam is very nice for offers. still i prefer gamersgate ways. and both not to be compared with the box itself.
me thinks.
unfortunately, in a weird attack of honesty, i'll make another honest statement today :p, i won't buy v2 in box because very likely i'll want to have it inmediatly.

It's a price elasticity of demand thing; there's virtually limitless supply so they can put whatever price they compute makes the biggest total revenue.

You'll note they quite often have these few day price cuts to experiment with how demand is affected so they can compute corresponding price elasticity.

To sell another copy they only need to pay for a trivial amount of bandwidth and server processing (and any contracts for the sold title). Edit: Of course personnel costs are also somewhat proportional to quantity sold.

Steam is on average 30% more expensive than my local store...

Down here in Australia they are usually $40 cheaper but that is because EB (Sub division of some yankee company) sort of has a monopoly on the game sales industry.

That being said sometimes steam can be a tad exspensive but out of the 30 or so titles i have purchased (excluding the 5 or so Valve games) the majority have been cheaper then in store prices.

Gamersgate usually runs prices at the same or near abouts as steam but i like the simplicity of the steam interface and with all my RL mates hooked into it since its opening launch it is just so handy.

As for my original question well if it hits steam i will be happy if not well i am sure i can cope :p

Since GamersGate is not directly operated by Paradox anymore, and Paradox would like to give at least the most popular digital distribution services an equal business opportunity (they reach the most costumers that way), we will most likely see Victoria 2 on Steam. However, because Steam doesn't place games not published by major publishers at a high priority, we may not see it on the Steam store before the release date, or it can only be purchased or the files are available for download during the timespan of a few days after the release date.
That said, I'm getting it off Steam, but only after seeing how it turns out, because I don't want to get burnt by buying a half-optimum product.

For those who claim Steam is expensive, GamersGate had the same price as Steam for HoI3 for European customers when it was released. But yeah, the pricing on games are ridiculous on Steam, and often more expensive than retail stores in Europe.

Ah OK, but I don't buy games unless they are on sale so I don't know about regular prices. I think I paid full price for 2 games last year, HOI3 and Blood Bowl. I bought a whole load of games on various sales and offers though, especially from Steam on their end of year sale.

I mainly buy stuff of Steam or GG these days if they're on sale, even though I have bought some full games, especially Valve stuff off Steam too.

I disagree about Steam being strangely expensive though, the last full game I bought off Steam was Left for Dead 2 for 49€-ish. I usually expect to pay 40-50€ for a brand-new game anyway... Everything at least used to be at least 45€ at the store anyway, and GG, Steam & co. have definitely sped up how soon games go on sale, plus I don't need to make the trip to the store.
