I'm starting this thread so that we (modders) can discuss strange things we are finding in v1.06.

For starters I've noticed the 1936 Albania.inc file includes a submarine flotilla! My references indicate the only navy Albania had were four Italian built patrol boats. I did a quick search on the Internet and found no reference to "Flote te Shiqeri".

DrVonCool, it probably adds a split second or so to loading time but my guess is that those lines are ignored by the code and thus should not impact actual playing performance.

Next quirk: Bolivia has claims on Peru when it should have claims on Chile (Peru was Bolivia's ally against Chile in the 1870s). The dispute with Chile was settled by a treaty in 1904 (thus we could argue Bolivia shouldn't even have a claim on Chile).

Czechoslovakia shares unit ID numbers with Cuba. Beware!

There are AI file issues that no longer work

The following parameters do not appear to be working correctly.


Enemy Handicap and Passitivity. I have witness the Russians attacking Hungary relentlessly with a 95 Passitivy and 360 for Handicap but he attacks over and over again. Seen this with Japan vs China as well.



Setting Garrison border priorities to -1 is no longer working. Under 1.05c if you set a border ENG = -1 the AI would not garrison that border. Under 1.06 the AI insists on garrisoning the border while at peace.

I'm noticing many minor naval units being added. I accept the transports as quite reasonable, but several nations have gained destroyers when I can find no record of them having any combat ships (at least not in 1936). Also it seems many minor nations are getting anti-air brigades added. I'm guessing this is not historical but is rather put in as a gameplay tweak to make conquering minors harder.

Mithel, you have a strong understanding of the defense value. Has it changed in patch 1.06? I read somewhere that it has and if so you understand how it works now?

The only thing that I'm aware of that has changed with combat is the "ground_def_eff" variable. The bug has been fixed so that this now impacts your own ground defense and not the enemies (thus fixing the techs that adjust it). Other than that change the ground combat system hasn't changed (as per Mikel's testing to confirm).

They have made massive changes to the front parameters in the AI files and this is no doubt making a huge difference to the AI behavior. I've noticed dramatically different max and min combat ratios, the division combat value evaluation variables are being used. Essentially it looks like most countries now give a weighting of two to SA and three to HA (other variables seem to be at default 1). Just those few changes can make a night and day difference in how the AI behaves.

Hmm that defense change then would effect my Winter War event for Germany in Russia and the Great Patriotic War as well. The defenses need to be changed I guess or implemented against their own units so they are harder to hit.

Another bizarre quirk I noticed...

The AI (I checked France, Belgium & Netherlands) allocates plenty of ICs to research immediately yet doesn't schedule any actual techs to research for the first month or so. I checked Germany and they do seem to schedule researching immediately. So perhaps a human would get a free couple of weeks of head start researching? Yet another aspect that'll give humans an advantage over the AI.

This could use more testing... I didn't do enough tests to pin down the actual time frames accurately nor identify just how many AI nations are impacted. I tested that on Jan 5th France, Belgium and Netherlands had scheduled no R&D (yet Germany had) but on Feb 2nd they all have techs scheduled for research.

Edit: I did a bit more testing and this may not be much of an issue. Belgium had techs scheduled by Jan 9th.

Not sure if that was not the case in previous version of the HoI, but in 1.06, when you modify river_attack parameter via inc file, it's added to the default HoI penalty (approx. 40-50%). Same goes with night_attack/defense penalty/bonus.

It's exception from general rule - other modifers in inc file override default HoI values.

Argh... did anyone notice that different nations get different percentages for resources in colony provinces?

It appears that Facist & Communist nations get 50% but democracies get 75%!

Edit: Apparently it's hard coded per nation and not the actual government type.
Edit: Also ministers appear to make no difference.

AFAIK there are some fractional values for techs which have to be completed once the whole tree is finished. Typically nuclear,submarines etc... If you put them to 0, the AI will not research them at all ...

Tamerlan his point is that when it comes to research values all fractions are converted downwards. So if you have 0.75 it is changed to a 0. This was discovered a long time ago as an issue with the exe file.
