Not positive this is a bug, but my vassal's opinion of me gets worse as my relative strength to them gets weaker. Isn't that backwards of EU4 and how it should work generally? My vassal's opinion of me should improve as I get stronger relative to them right? It made it really hard to integrate a vassal yesterday without destroying most of my fleet. Thanks.

The vassals get the modifier between them...so if you have 20k fleet. Vassal A has 6K and vassal B has 10k. Together they have 16k and that's their relative power to yours...the closer they get to your power the more they dislike you. Because why should someone weaker...be in charge of them? Pretty sure it's working as intended.

That does not appear to be the way it works. This is best evidenced in two ways:

1 - Go get your fleet obliterated. Suddenly they will like you more.

2 - Build more ships and they will hate you more.

I agree that I think it is supposed to be a "I'm more powerful than you" but it doesn't seem to work that way.

I'm hoping this gets addressed soon... or at least confirmed that it's a bug. Hopefully either a dev will chime in soon, or we'll see something in patch notes someday...

Has anyone figured out what/how this dumb modifier works yet? Is it still bugged? I have only 1 vassal and their are inferior in tech and fleet but have me in a negative diplo score due to this modifier I don't understand whats its from or how to fix/lower it.

# Subject's relative power to overlord
opinion_relative_power = {
opinion = {
base = -2 # per 1% power
}

min = -1000

unique = yes

that's what it looks like in the files for the modifier...if you don't care about achievements you can change the -2 to a -1 or -.5 or whatever you want and test it out if you like.

Navigate to the stellaris folder...>common>opinion_modifiers and then select the top text file

Whether it was put in intentionally it this is a bug nonetheless. It contradicts the basic reasons for why someone would accept vassalization in the first place, threat of aggression. The stronger a vassal's overlord is in comparison to themselves, the more reason they have to accept their vassalization, not less.

The penalty does decrease with improved relative power in your favor, but it seems to asymptotically approach zero (I was still at -94 despite having overwhelming power compared to my one vassal). Also, the relative power comparison is in part (but not entirely) calculated against the sum power of all your subjects. So the precise function for calculating this malus is very unclear, especially since the only moddable access to it is a single adjustable coefficient.

Bumping old post. I'm in most current version 1.4.1 and still getting a huge penalty here. This should at least be reduced after a vassal has been under you for a certain amount of time - whether it is 50 years/100 at least at some point it should go down.

Your addition, @soth007, is welcome but if you have further problems on a newer/different version of the game then you need to create a seperte bug report thread for the problem.

It doesn't really help to bump these old threads because the title says the problem is for such an old version of the game. Though referencing to these old bug reports in new bug report threads is very much acceptable and helpful.
