I started a game yesterday as fanatic materialist + xenophobes After playing a while I noticed that after my capital planet where about 60%-70% full, my new pops didn't have the fanatic materialist ethics anymore. My capital planet had a negative ethics divergence value, but all my new pops only got the xenophobe ethics.

I also sent some of the original pops to colonize a new planet, and the population on that planet immediately lost all xenophobe traits from day 1 of the colonization. It was my understanding that this would happen slowly over time, and at least the first pop should have the ethics I sent it with.

Also, shouldn't new pops on a planet have the ethics of the majority? It seems really strange that new pops lost the fanatic materialist ethics. After a while, some of these pops gained the materialist ethics, I guess because of my negative ethical divergence.

Same problem here. Not sure exactly when it happened as I don't have any older saves, but by 3 months into my game, none of my pops were any kind of Materialist, even though I started as Fanatic Materialist+Pacifist.

Tried starting another game with the same empire, and on *day 1* none of my pops were Pacifist.

You sure that your pop has not migrated around?
A pop from your new colony could migrate back to your capital, while a capital pop moved to your colony.
The pop who moved from colony could have different ethos.

I have seen the same issue on two separate games - it appears to affect Fanatic Ethos.

Any colonies I started, even within the starting sensor range of my home world, loose any Fanatic Ethos in any new pop - only the original pop keeps both ethos values.

This was with .50% drift or less.

After testing with using Edicts to bump all the pop to positive drift, I was able to get 1-2 pops across the empire to get the non-fanatical level of the orignal ethos back - but most picked up some other ethos.

The only planet I can consistently get the original Ethos is my homeworld, and I've had to use purge/relocation 2-3 times to get a 'baseline' pop - so even with a -10% drift on my homeworld there seems to be a 50-75% chance of dropping any fanatical ethos for any new pop.

I suspect the intent is for the ethos to drop from 'fanatical' to 'normal', but for whatever reason it skips that and drops it totally.

I've tested with Fanatical Materialistic and Fanatical Collective with the same results. My other 'level 1' ethos have never been affected and I've never had a pop loose them thus far.

I've also had migration disabled for both games.

From other treads about the issue (https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...-aaaaand-theyre-suddenly-the-opposite.927055/) it only seems to affect Fanatic ethos.

I had what I assume to be the same issue. By the time I got around to building my first colony ship (just a couple years into the game) every single pop on my homeworld lost the materialist trait.

I didn't start with a Fanatic ethos though, so it could be a separate but similar problem (or really, really bad RNG).

I'm having the same issue with fanatic materialist/individualist. My pops keep losing either one or the other ethos even on the capital with negative divergence.

I can reproduce this by generating a bunch of new games.

Most of the time, the pops on my starting planet will have my chosen ethos, but sometimes one or more will start with missing ethos.

This is even when ethics divergence is in the negative.

Same here. In my current game new pops on the new planet never spawn with original fanatic materialist. I've purged new pop every month for like 3-4 years (36-48 spawns) and nada. Guess I'll have to keep relocating pops from home planet.

Cheers.

Yup, I just got this problem without a fanatic ethos as well. Only 5 years into the game, negative ethics divergence all the time, only 1 POP has retained the Individualist ethos (it's the one on the actual capital building, the one that gives the adjacency bonus), all others are Pacifist/Spiritualist only. Also, I'm pretty sure this was almost from day one, because I was wondering why I didn't get the 5% research output anywhere (didn't think to check the pops though). Government is still individualist.
This is on 1.0.3.

Edit: Am dumb, accidentally wrote Materialist instead of Individualist...

Same problem. Fanatic Materialist xenophiles. A few years in only one pop was still fanatic materialist, despite no colonies at the time and negative ethics divergence. Homeworld was all but 1 just xenophiles Very annoying.
