1. I have Wells v.2.7.2 (60bf) installed

2. The game will not launch. Every time I press play, the game loads to a black screen and hangs there indefinitely ... until I press any button, and then I am given the option to wait or close the program. Waiting (up to 30 min) does not lead to any change.

3. I have all the dlc's : expansion, units, storypacks, all of them.

4. I have no mods installed.

5. I am able to reproduce this problem every time I attempt to launch the game.

I have uninstalled the game completely and verified installation afterward, twice, to no avail.

The exact same failure to launch occurred after both re-installations.

I am running Windows 10 home edition, on
an Intel i-7 9700 CPU
with 32 GB RAM
and an Nvidia RX 2080 ti GPU

Turning off my firewall and virus protection software did not fix the game's failure to launch.

I can't think of anything else to try at this juncture, which is why I've written this ticket.

Any help in getting your game to successfully launch would be greatly appreciated.

The most commonly successful fix for this, (at least according to what I found on various threads) is changing fullscreen to windowed fullscreen. That didn't do anything for me, since I was already in windowed fullscreen. However, once I rolled the game back to 2.7.1, I was able to load the game just fine. I am still unable to play in the beta 2.7.2, but since 2.7.1 still has the crippling pop job check coding that actually, literally makes the mid/late game unplayable, I am just taking a long/permanent break from Stellaris until they get their s**t together.

Hopefully you are running fullscreen and changing to windowed fullscreen will do the trick for you. If not ... you could try rolling back to the unplayable 2.7.1 =D
Other than that, I don't know. This game is, tragically, a smoldering wreck right now.

Best advice I can give anyone looking to play Stellaris right now is ... keep your eye on Distant Worlds 2, which will hopefully come out in the next year.

Cheers.

No idea how I missed this post, sorry!

In the game launcher please set Display mode to Borderless.

IF that doesn't help, Has the game ever run successfully on this computer? Or never?

IF IT USED TO RUN:
Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere, and user_empire_designs.txt from /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ if you have made any custom empires or races.
- "uninstall" in Steam-Stellaris
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Stellaris AND Documents/Paradox/Stellaris folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add stellaris.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Stellaris or Documents Stellaris locations, before installing again.

IF NEVER:
Install ALL these Microsoft modules:

(run dxsetup.exe after extracting from this download)

Add stellaris.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.

Also if you have FRAPS or the MSI Gaming App or Rivatuner installed, disable it as it clashes with this game.

If that doesn't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/Stellaris/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox/Stellaris/logs/ folder, attach system.log .
