I am playing a collectivist nation. After an invasion on a primitive world I purged every pop except one, that I enslaved. After it started to grow a new pop (that appeared enslaved) I emancipated it and purged. For some time my people had -3 to happiness due to "Alien slavery" but after a year of so it skyrocketed to -12, ruining my economy and causing massive ethos divergence due to unhappiness penalties. After I emancipated the pop the modifier remained. I have no alien slaves, yet people are unhappy about them.

Here are the screenshots.
