I think PDS "should" be aware of this from the Blorg streams; it happened several times to Martin and is still happening in release.
If you attempt to perform an instant trade for minerals/energy, and the other Empire does not have enough to complete the trade -- even though they like the trade (positive approval), upon pressing the "confirm" button, the trade screen disappears, nothing gets transferred, and there are no messages about the trade result; it's as if it never happened which is very confusing to the player without any kind of feedback.
At a bare minimum, there should be a trade message that explains that the trade failed because the trade partner did not have enough resources. Perhaps a preferred solution would be a trade acceptance of "-1000" as soon as trade quantities for the other Empire exceed what they have available to them.
