There are even more ridiculous questions one could ask. What if the US somehow became communist in the early 30s and allied with the USSR?
We would have not only CIS today, but also CISA?

I wonder what the Cold War period would be like.We would have not only CIS today, but also CISA?
I wonder what the Cold War period would be like.
Even if both would be communist Im not so sure that they would become each other allies like Soviet and China separated.
That's easy. Communists always fight with each other, communist rulers and bureaucrats are terrible, disgusting, unfathomable people.
Sooner or later they either will cease to be real communists or implode.
You're probably right. Damn. That's more boring than I had thought. Ok, what if the US allies with Japan? What happens then?
How long do you think the american public would support such a war? Stalin probably knew exactly what it would take to defeat the americans.
I wonder how motivated USA soldiers would be to attack a country which they could expect no mercy from if captured. The attack would be peformed in the worst location far from the most important areas in the Soviet (so a long war). A country that have very nasty weather and ruled by a leader who did not care about throwing away lives at all because he knew that if the enemy was not willing to do exact the same he would eventually win.
I doubt the american soldiers would be willing to stay in that war for long, the Germans tought that the eastern front was the absolute worst place to be in and they did have alot of advantages over this american invasion. It would be a war with millions of casulties on both sides in a never ending conflict very similar to the real life eastern front.
more americans went MIA in the Pacific Theater than died in all of Vietnam. The pacific war was manpower light. Simple logistical necessity meant few men were put in danger.

It was hardly manpower lite.
It also shows just how many men were involved. The American war effort in the Pacific was massive. Not as massive as that in Europe, but it required the mobilization of millions of men. This just highlights how few were killed in Vietnam.
When I was there, the death rate for my cohort in LA was much higher than in Vietnam.
