It is old debate among historians (and even forum posts) as to whether Stalin would have attacked Germany.

Those scholars purporting to say 1941 are very unpersuasive. But there is quite a bit of reason to believe that 1942 or 1943 may have seen a Barbarossa in reverse. (Just think if no Barb AND Germany is at war with US in 1942. Stalin would have been all over that!)

So the game event makes a lot of sense - both historically and for gameplay reasons.

By the way, kudos to developers for the new dynamic of bad relations potentially leading to a premature DoW. That actually changes an awful lot and adds a nice new dynamic to things.

I would not want an event causing USSR to declare war on Germany in 1942, nor would I favour an event Germany launching Barbarossa in 1941. The AI seems to be better able to rationally decide who to attack and when in AOD.

Err, both in AoD and HoI the AI attacks via AI events. I think this is what is reffered to in the thread.

Not necesseraly, try play as Germany and have -200 relations with the Soviet Union, they will probably attack you in 1940 if you are still not done in France.
If it's an "AI event", then why does Germany not always launch Barbarrossa in June 1941?
I saw them sometimes do it in May 1941 or in August 1941 too.
Germany is just coded to attack the Soviet Union at that time if it can and if the game went a mostly historical course till then, definetly not something I would call an event.

There is an event simply named Vlassov that will fire, around Febuary of 42 (not neccessarily then, but it's death date for possibility is 1999), that will cause the Soviet Union to declare war on Germany.

Leader 10363 is infact Vlassov, which means if he is killed in the great purge (he becomes available in 37, purge happens in 38), this event will not fire.

It's actually a historical one that revolves around a Soviet defector (General Andrey Vlasov), that defects shortly after being captured in the aftermath of the siege of Leningrad,

In my game, I don't have any doubts that the USSR would have eventually dowed on me anyways.

While I had France, England, and India (was allied with Greece, Turkey, and Persia, and had secured the Balkans allowing my quick armored corps led by Guderian, Rommel, Mannerheim, and Von Kliest {what a team}, to scoot across in record speed), my military was very low on numbers (i've always been more tactically minded then strategically so). I had built a defensive line along the Vistula River, which held the soviets at bay indefinitely, but they seized by Asian allies and my puppet India. It didn't end well,,, I did encircle units along the Vistula line but not enough to do much. with the Soviets in Belgrade, I released my control over Hungarian and Romanian troops (thereby removing the southern flank defense,) and made a desperate push east...

It's rather Ironic having to commit to a Dunkirque like withdrawl from the Continental Reich, to the Reich held lands of Britain.

Edit: Oh, and btw, Vlasov is not worthy leader to be the catalyst for a Soviet end to my precious empire :(
