Seems pretty much all done for. The Germans will lose their troops in the Baltics, afterwards there'll not be enough troops to really stop you from doing what you want. Any plans for the post-german-war-phase?

Seems, yes, but they really surprised me after this (I'm a few months ahead in my game).
Militia has a certain point were their efficiency cannot get any higher (stacking penalty outweighs adding more troops) but infantry/armour/support brigades can still add more power. So the Germans aren't quite done for yet ;)

-- The 2nd of September - the 1st of October 1943 --

As the Soviet forces came ever closer to Germany and eventually Berlin, the German leadership demanded more and more from their allies and puppets. As they fell one by one and Germany was left with Italy as the only friend in Europe, the Germans turned to Vichy France to include them in the alliance.
The Vichy government declined the German offer and were presented with an ultimatum.
Eventually, in the beginning of September, they caved to the pressure and Germany seized control of all Vichy controlled land. The extra IC could help their defence, the extra manpower could bring more troops to the front. And it would give the German and Italian leaders a place to run in case the Soviet hordes would prove unstoppable.

***

The western front saw heavy action during the month of September.
The battle of Schwerin caused great casualties on both sides.

The same happened in Sebnitz, although the Soviet casualties were incredibly high. More than 20000 troops lost.

***

The Risti pocket in the northern Baltic area was finally broken by a large Soviet force.

The German troops fled towards the island of Saaremaa.

But in the end almost 45000 German troops were captured by the Soviets.

***

The Königsberg pocket was heavily defended. The Soviet commanders sent 74 divisions (almost 1 million troops) to attack Bartenstien, which were defended by only 9 German divisions.

Stalin called the generals idiots and demanded that they deployed a more reasonable force to the offensive.

At the same time a similar force assaulted Königsberg itself.

Bartenstein fell after a few days and the Soviet troops surrounded Königsberg.

With another direction of attack the defending German forces were under heavy pressure.

The defenders were unable to organize a defence.

And the city fell to the Soviets who captured more than 200000 German troops.

Immediately a very large force was redeployed to the proper western front line.

***

The final Baltic pocket near Memel was put under pressure. The last Soviet assault was stopped at Memel and Stalin wanted to make sure that the city was captured this time.

***

In other news Xibei San Ma refused to surrender.

Stalin was quoted as saying "What does it matter whether they surrender, we control all of their land anyway?".

-- The 2nd of October - 31st of October 1943 --

October was a quiet month. The western front and the Danish front saw a lot of action but very little land traded hands. In Italy the Soviets slowly pushed the Italian troops back.

Stalin had ordered that the western front shortened the front line even further by capturing the port city of Stettin.
The casualties on the way to Stettin were high.

But Stalin nearly choked on his pretzel when he got the combat reports from the Danish front line.
More than 30000 Soviet troops had died defending Beverungen. And only 10000 Germans.

30000 more had died trying to defend Bocholt.

***

The last Baltic pocket was being annihilated and a major battle had started at Alsunga were 22 German divisions were defending against 33 Soviet.

***

The Soviet scientists reported to Stalin that they had completed initial research into nuclear weapons. It was now a matter of time before the first bomb would be ready.

***

Stalin was looking at a map of the far eastern theatre discussing the slow gains over the past months with the commander.
"Why aren't you making more progress general, as far as I know the Japanese are almost non-existent in the area?"

"I'm sorry sir, but supplies and reinforcements have a long way to travel. I've indicated it with a red arrow on this map."

"The orange arrows indicate the lengthened supply lines as we progress deeper into China".

"Why don't we send supplies this way?", Stalin asked and painted a green arrow.
"And then later we can send supplies down this way", he continued and drew a couple of yellow arrows.

"I suppose we could do that general, except for the nations who control the area."
"I doubt they would allow us to move troops and supplies through their land."

"Invite them to the Union then, make them see the glory of the Socialist revolution."

"Of course sir, I'll get right on it."

Troops were deployed around Sinkiang.

And war was declared.

The Soviets had invited yet another nation into the Union.

-- The 1st of November - 30th of November 1043 -

The Memel pocket was still under heavy attack and both sides were suffering great casualties.
But Stalin was confident that it would be destroyed.

***

The Danish front was having greater difficulties. The Germans seemed to have a lot more and a lot stronger units to deploy on the front line.
Eibergen was lost with heavy casualties.

And so was Lübeck, leading to a German siege of Plön with Kiel as the next possible objective. If that part of the front failed the entire Danish front could be encircled.

***

The eastern front was a little better.
Sinkiang refused to surrender but Stalin still sent the exiled government a letter thanking them for accepting the invitation to the Union.

The new front line was a lot longer but the supply lines were shorter. Stalin wanted his troops to continue with the next stage and prepare supply lines through Tibet and later Yunnan.

On the far east the Japanese landed a large invasion force on the island of Ostrov Sakhalin.

***

The western front saw its first major disaster as 8 Soviet divisions were cut off from the main force. The Germans had been pushing the Soviet lines for several weeks and it finally broke in two places around Cottbus.

***

The only part that was doing well on the western front was the Italian front line.
The Italian army had collapsed completely and Roma was within range of the Soviet forces.

Stalin was now hoping that he could create a third front to the Germans through occupied France.
