-- The 1st of December - 31st of December 1943 --

December marked the end of the real Italian resistance to the Soviets. Roma came under siege and was only defended by a single headquarter brigade.

More retreating troops joined the battle but the Soviets forced them to retreat even further.

And Roma came under Soviet control.

In northern Italy the Soviet troops managed to capture the mountains and fortresses in what used to be western France, creating a third front to the Germans, who began deploying large numbers of troops in the area.

The remaining Italian troops became trapped in a pocket as the Soviets started to capture more land on the French Riviera.

***

The German front saw more large battles as the Germans attempted to push back the Soviet liberators.

***

In Norway the US decided to deploy 30 brigades in Bergen. Stalin didn't recall allowing the US to land troops inside Soviet territory but decided that no action was to be taken at the moment.

***

On the eastern front a newly deployed corps began pushing back the Japanese landing.

The Guangxi Clique decided that resistance was futile and surrendered to the Soviets.

An invitation to the Union was sent to Yunnan.

1944 started with a German assault on the Senftenberg pocket.

Another assault was launched at Markllissa to keep the Soviets from liberating the pocket (little did they know that Stalin had already determined that the Soviet commander inside the pocket was a traitor and any unit under his command was no longer seen as Soviet).

In the end the Germans captured 100000 troops which belonged to no army.

***

A pocket was created around Danzig and the Soviets began pushing the German troops.

At the end of the month the pocket was confined to a few provinces around Danzig.

***

The Memel pocket saw more action during January.
Liepaja was attacked by 15 Soviet divisions.

And the German troops were pushed back to Memel.

Which came under attack.

47 German divisions were trapped inside Memel.

***

The Soviet scientists completed more research into the atom bomb. Hopefully the first bomb would be ready soon.

***

On the eastern front the Japanese troops were being pushed back.

***

The French front line saw some action as the Germans tried, unsuccessfully, to push the Soviets back.

The Italian defenders at Savona were captured.

The defenders of Torino suffered the same fate.

And the Soviets captured the city of Puget-Théniers.

Quite heavy causalities for the red army...
Germans ain't evacuating Memel?

I think they are slowly evacuating their troops, I see transport ships in the Baltic now and then going to the west :)

I certainly hope he has the port covered, making it a little bit impossible, sort of like Yorktown.

But on a tiny bit bigger scale.

I have no navy whatsoever, so I cannot do anything to stop them from leaving ;)

The battle of Memel was lost.

But it was offset by an important defensive victory at Plön.

***

The Italians were now at the end of the boot.

***

Stalin was getting used to seeing high casualties, but this month he almost choked on his pretzel.

At Bad Tölz more than 30000 troops were lost.

And at Sokolov more than 53000!

***

The French front had stabilized on both sides. Massive troop deployments meant that neither side was strong enough to push back the other.

So Stalin came up with a brilliant plan: "Let's create another front!".
Only a few options remain to increase the number, or size, of fronts. Stalin created a plan and handed it to the generals.
"I've ordered the deployment of 10 divisions at first. You'll get more reinforcements later", Stalin said.

"Now set the plan in motion!".

It was a bold plan. A plan to take on the Swiss army in the mountains and forts and push through the small soon-to-be-Soviet nation into Germany.

To everyone's surprise, although in retrospective it was obvious why, the Swiss army fell back immediately.

The invasion progress nicely.

And slowly Switzerland was becoming Soviet.

The majority of Swiss divisions were captured in Basel.

In the end everyone bows to Soviet might. Another member joined the Union.

The assault continued towards Germany.

The Germans raced to redeploy units.

And once again the Maginot line was used against the Germans.

Next, invade spain, and use the south as a 2nd front :D

You mean a 5th front (Denmark, Eastern Germany, Southern France, and East France/West Germany Front so far).
Do that, and launch an invasion of Normandy to start a 6th front.

I've been thinking about doing exactly that, but without a navy it's going to be hard.
So a bit of clean up of the Mediterranean is coming soon ;)

your casualty rate is immense - even with the 1.2 trickleback bug it must be hurting your IC to fund the needed reinforcements? Or do you just let divisions run down?

It's actually not that expensive to reinforce my units (perhaps because they are militia). I spend on average 5-10 IC on reinforcements (with rare spikes up to around 15).
But it does take time, which means that a lot of offensives die before they really get going because of German counter attacks.

Also, I have an immense amount of units so even though I lose 30k in one battle that province might have 10-15 divisions defending, leaving enough full strength divisions to conduct a proper defence.
The AI also seems quite capable of rotating units in and out of attacked provinces so the casualties are spread out over a large number of divisions.

Good to see the AI doing that - I sort of thought the German AI was either cycling units in/out, or leaving units as rearguards in my game.

Had forgotten that the upgrade IC bill was probably related to troop type - mine's through the roof but I suppose I'm currently repairing lots of airwings

Hope you defeat the Germans fast.:p
And are you going to make transport ships to conquer sea areas?Would be fun.

The front line is pretty much a stalemate at the moment, neither side is able to do anything. Except on the Danish front where the Germans are pushing hard.
So I doubt it's going to be a fast victory ;)
