using the patrol task on ships

Hi everyone, i have a stupid question but i cannot set patrol routes for my stack of ships. What i do is select the stack of ships them i press right click + ctrl on a target sea province and a message box pops out, i choose patrol them my ships move to the target, finnaly they stay there losing org and strength until they die. What im doing wrong?

Your ships always lose org at sea and take damage from sinking convoys. You have to check on them and bring them back for resupply & repair when they get weak.

There are also some naval techs that will help you,if you want to research
them.
Some people don't research them because they consider naval techs as a
waste.
I usually "do" the naval techs at least to the point where my u-boats are
very good & my navy is good.
You also should do the supply naval techs.

AFAIK the "Patrol"command has no function in this game, it was a leftover from previous Paradox games . If you want to set a patrol route, hold the "shift"button and select several provinces with the right mouse button to set a path.

You can also use this to set a path through several ports for your fleets so they do not exceed their range when you transfer them over long distances (Troops loaded ontransports will not disembark in these ports, which saves a lot of clicks).
