So, does anyone have any advice for using Ottoman Pashas?

Right now I don't understand how they are meant to be used. You can only deploy them in states, but if something is a state I will definitely be both building and recruiting there, so Pashas seem kinda pointless.

I suppose they let you run edicts cheaply, but that can't possibly make up for the increased costs.

Is there a strategy I'm not seeing here?

Believe me when I say this, you're not missing anything :D Janissaries are quite useful but I played some Ottomans games in single and multi, saw other experienced players playing it, Pashas are not needed at all.

I play mostly multi games, unrest is a great thing if one knows how to use it. The moment you conquer new territories, the autonomy in the region is 75 meaning that you are only allowed to use 25% of the resources in that province. I always reduce autonomy manually to get more from that region. The more money you make the stronger you are in the end. The only reason I would use Pasha is to make some provinces rebel to change the religion of country or would be to get faster revolution.

Also, to address the idea that to use Pashas with Age of Discovery bonus of -5 unrest, Age of discovery bonus is more than enough to reduce unrest since when you remove a pasha from the given state it causes +5 unrest. Removing a state edict causes nothing, assigning pashas reduces -2. In the end, it is worse than the predicted outcome, Pashas could have a rework

Thanks guys, some interesting ideas here. So far I've used your advice to kinda-sorta find some uses for them -

- Combine with humanism/theologian bonuses to reduce autonomy more effectively
- Reduce state maintenance in the capital state to basically nothing, even when running edicts
- Combine with reduce autonomy/defensiveness edict to make more effective border regions

They're hardly optimal, though. I second the idea that they need a rework.
