EUIV is a 'sandbox' game, which means that there's no specific end goals in the game and you have a lot of freedom to do what you want to do (If you have the conditions for it). I know that you can set your goals for the game, and many have done that using achievements as a direction. However, I wonder, is it okay to consider completing mission trees as end goals for a game? Yhat obviously doesn't mean the playthrough should stop once you're done with the mission tree but I think once you're done, you've completed a playthrough with whatever nation you're playing. I acknowledge that it's not really that accurate, as there are DLCS that add a lot more or even something unique to the mission tree of a nation, but I do still believe that mission trees are fun to complete (But there are many, many times when they're also tedious).
What do you think?

I agree. In many of my recent campaigns, one of my main goals was the mission tree completion. In my opinion, mission trees are a great guide to expanding your nation.

I usually go for steam achievements, but some achievements call for completion of mission trees, such as for Austria and Great Britain. And i have to say those two campaigns were among the most satisfying for me

My opinion is that mission trees should operate like imperator's last iteration, with special mission trees being selectable alongaide generic ones. This offers never-ending mission trees which ends the issue of being limited by a set tree. Additionally, the generic trees of Imperatot were not so bad at all, with natural goals being available. Unfortunately, such a change at this point would be in EU5, and as such the current iteration is here to stay.

With regard to trees as end goals, I think it's good for some countries like Spain or GB, but playing many other countries often requires setting out your own goals, not just saying "I'm going to play Chagatai" when there's so many routes you can go, and the mission tree doesn't fit any of them.

My favourite tree in I:R was actually the generic "conquer region X"-mission, purely because it had the preamble of drumming up support in your populace to get the claims, spreading your propaganda on why you were conquering, etc etc., which felt a lot more engaged and immersive than "spy network to 20: hit fabricate claim: go".
