whats the point? the problem is missing parallel processing. offloading anything is creating parallelization. im always wondering why developers dont play their own games.. when performance starts to tank realy realy bad in the lategame... shouldnt devs pick up on that shit?
you do realise if the game exists at this point you cannot switch to a multi core process this has to be done at design not at any point after, also its also ridiculously difficult to do hence why few games do it.

Not completely true... Since the game is built using Clausewitz, depending on how exactly they've made that engine it's possible that they can redesign that for (limited) multicore support, and reap the benefits in the titles built using it. Of course that's no small task in itself, and carries with it a heavy risk of introducing bugs, so I don't think it's likely.

It's a graphic engine, graphics already goes on another thread. That is why you can click on menus when it's lagging and why you cannot issue commands.

Everything else cannot be parallelized without breaking synchronisation in multyplayer

with this lags the lategame is no fun, especially in battles or wars at all there is a big lag also on good pcs and on normal speed - if the engine can't handle the battles or ships moving around within fleets and rework of the engine is not possible then paradox should remove the battles as there are and make a option to have battles like in eu4 or vic2 - with less lag, less graphics, but fun and good enough for grand strategy

not true, it can be done after, it's just hard. and its not that difficult, assuming you do it early on. the fact is we are well into the era of multicore gaming, many games now require a quad core. almost all new games are capable of at least some multithreading, otherwise, why are we all buying CPU's with 4+ cores?

It's not an engine limitation it's bugs which are causing performance issues simply demanding a better engine would neccesary make things better wait for bug fixes and performance will improve

Stellaris won't be multi-threaded until the underlying engine is rewritten. And that's not likely to happen.

It's not impossible, just really hard, and Paradox may or may not want to spend the time/effort until other major bugs are fixed and all the low-hanging performance fruit have been harvested.

The games uses several cores
Try running any of the games with -threads=1 in commandline when you launch the game and enjoy

Just so you know...

EDIT : May 2016... Sweet necro

The option -threads=1 is only to show how the Clausewitz Engine is working with only one core and this option does imho not increase the performance.

Groogy said:

The game doesn't utilize every single core 100% all the time, it only does it during it processing a daily tick(where all the update to the actual game is happening). And there's an "infinity" of time between each daily tick in the game from the computers perspective. I mean we could just occupy the cores and spin the threads so they look like they are being used 100% constantly if you feel that makes it better?

Command lines are something different, right click on the game in steam, go to properties and then press the button called 'set launch options' and write in the command there. Remember to remove it again when you are done testing or else you're gonna be stuck in super-slow hell.

It seems with the option -threads=1 the game is using only one core and is slower. In my tests it uses one core nearly to 100%.
Without the option Stellaris is using more than one core, but in my tests it still had using one core more than the others but not as nearly 100%.

Multiple cores are only really useful with parallel computing, which is something that games do not currently utilise very much. I am certain that many many boffins are wrestling with parallel computing in games but it aint here in any significant fashion as yet.

I would not agree with this. The last year or so has seen many games come out that use several cores well. As an example, this post talks about how even the hyper threading of the I7 is helping games see significant games over a 4 core/thread i5. To be honest I think my 6700k will be outdated much much faster than my 2500k was due to the 4 cores it has.

What may surprise users, is that writing a post that just calls a thread out for being necro, does not actually help anyone. In fact, all you have done is assist the necro by bumping the thread to the top of the topics for longer than it would have been. If you see a thread breaking the rules either contact a moderator OR report the relevant post. DO NOT call people out in public over rule breaking.

I thank the person who used the report button rather than posting in here, which actually brought the thread to my attention.

I am going to close this thread for necro and say if people want to continue this conversation then start a new thread.

Thanks,
Dylan
